Samurai soft top on/off
Suggested by GameboyRMHI was looking for a good guide online as to removing and replacing the soft top on a Samurai, but even after finding a user’s manual I had no such luck. So here’s my hard-learned info:
Removal:
- Unzip and unbutton everything in the back. Don’t forget the buttons around the rear support bar.
- Fold down the rear support bar and strap down if necessary.
- Pull soft top straight up where it slides into the back of the targa bar.
- Undo velcro above doors
- Unbutton front and yank off front seal above windshield. Store everything somewhere away from pets, dirt, sharp objects, reckless children, or any combination of the above.
Yay the roof’s off! But that’s only half the task, and chances are that once you’ve replaced the roof once you’ll never want to do it again, so now’s a good time to take any women in your life for a drive in a convertible, so they can get that out of their system :P
Replacement (the hard part):
- Do up velcro above doors
- HARDEST PART: Slip the hard plastic ridge on the soft top AND the metal ridge on top of the windshield under the same fold on the bottom of the front seal. Stick it down TIGHT from inside. This takes a great deal of force and time. You must do this before you do up anything on the back. If you do it wrong, the front will come loose at about 90kph. You may want to do up the front buttons before or after sticking down the seal depending on how things are going.
- Slip the folds in the soft top straight down into the slots at the back of the targa bar. A tiring and time-consuming step.
- Raise the rear support bar into position.
- Zip and button up everything at the back.
Now you should go and do a top speed run in your Samurai to make sure everything is stuck down properly. And if you own a Samurai you’ll know that I’m not telling you to break the speed limit :P
