Add a V8, yes the factory did it, but is the rest of the chassis performance really up this? Sure it will be tire smoking fast in a straight line, but what might fail in the process and how controllable / drivable could the car really be? There is much more to a sports car than straight line performance.

Yes, the rest of the chassis will be up to it. It's going to have Miata front suspension, a four-link rear, chassis stiffening and brake upgrades. All of the drivetrain components are being changed. So while it will have plenty of straight line performance, it's also going to outperform a stock MG in the handling department.
