Lotus Seven (Locost)

Take the handling and excitement of Colin Chapman’s original, then fill it full of modern mechanicals from a Miata - and voila. A Miata-based Locost. Built by yours truly. Weight is 1300 lbs, power is around 175 hp and the driver’s face hurts from smiling. My apologies for putting it under the Lotus make, but that’s as close as I could get. Is it a classic? Discuss.

Again Keith you rock. For me this is classic. Even if your using modern kit under the sheet metal. To the unknowing it makes no difference. To a car guy, you've respected a tradition and used your head to make the thing go faster while keeping the cost reasonable. 2 big thumbs up. If I'd known about these cars before I got into my GT6… Well… Nuff said. A.

Not a classic. Inspired or copied by or from a classic. Since its not a Lotus, its not a Lotus. Regardless, its a neat car. Leo

Classic or not, great car and it has to be gobbs of fun. Did I see this car featured in a mag a few years ago?

The car's been in Grassroots Motorsports a couple of times as well as Car and Driver.

Colin Chapman got it right. Chapman's idea's of light weight and a strong, rigid chassis, proper suspension geometry is the way to build a high performance car. Chapman was considered a radical, mad man or even dis-respectful of British car design tradition. The race car world owes a lot to Chapman, he was the one who founded what we know today as the modern race car. Even 50 years after it's design solid rear axle en all, the 7 can be faster, quicker and great fun to drive compared to those over weight (3000+ lbs) sports car produced today. All of what is correct with the Lotus 7 is what is so wrong with many of todays sports cars.
