Project 2002: Brakes and Bottom End
Dec 13, 2011 update to the BMW 2002tii project car
This past weekend saw us wrapping up the installation of our BMW’s brake lines from Classic Tube and the start of work on our bottom end.
The rules for SCCA’s Street Prepared allow for balancing, factory second-overbores and some other subtle tweaks to the basic engine unit. To that end, we’ve torn our engine down to the nitty gritty and taken it to the machine shop. It was returned with a first overbore and a crank that was turned .010 under. We could have taken it further, but there was no real reason to go that far for only tiny incremental gains while removing the ability to rebuild the engine easily in the future.

- things should progress a little more quickly—just ordered rings from Ireland—once they're here, I can finish the rest of the engine.
