Better Seen Than Sorry
Jan 24, 2011 update to the BMW 2002tii project car
After almost getting rear-ended in traffic last week, we replaced our BMW’s small and dim incandescent bulbs with a fully engineered array of LEDs from 2002s.net and Classic Auto LEDs. The kit comes with nearly everything needed to replace the bulbs for the taillights, brake lights and turn signals. Plus, it installs in less than 30 minutes.
We installed the Classic Auto LEDs kit last night in our garage. After removing the old bulbs and fishing the wires through the old bulb holes, we glued the array of LEDs to our old housings using some 5-minute epoxy. Once that was cured, we reinstalled the lights and checked to make sure everything was working correctly.
Boy, was it ever. The new LED-equipped lights are very, very bright and much more noticeable in direct sunlight. This should help warn inattentive drivers that our classic BMW is slowing down in traffic. It may even save us some heartache in the future.
You can learn more about the kit, priced at $325, by clicking here. Considering the hefty prices for replacement vintage BMW trim and bumper pieces, we think this is a total bargain for a beautifully engineered product.
