Making the Panels Fit
Aug 11, 2004 update to the MG Midget project car
We’ve pretty much finished the rust repair on the Midget and now we’re making things fit. Panel fit in the early 1970’s just wasn’t what it is today. The right door had a terrible “V” shaped gap at the back, so we had to take radical action to repair it. Sometimes you can solve problems with adjustments, sometimes you have to use the welder. We had to weld some additional material to the edge of the door, then grind it back to the right shape. We’ve got a perfect gap now. Details of this and other panel alignment work will be in the next story in Classic Motorsports.
