Where Do We Start?
Aug 11, 2011 update to the Shelby GT 350 project car
We have a deadline looming—this year’s Going To The Sun Rally in Montana—which means we don’t have time to dawdle while revitalizing our patinaed 1967 Shelby GT 350. We need to make the most of every day we spend on the car to get it ready for the event. We also don’t have time for a full-blown, ground-up restoration.
We have an ally with this one, though: Orlando Mustang. They volunteered to house the restoration and help with the heavy lifting. They have experts and spares at the ready, too, which will help keep us on task.
Before we put the car on the lift, a test drive was in order—and before we could do that, we needed to install another fuel filter. There’s obviously junk in the tank, and at some point we will have to address it.
Despite some carburetor issues—we think the accelerator pump is ill—the car hauled ass. It also didn’t smoke, and a compression test yielded good numbers. Hey, maybe we’re going to make that big date after all!
