Bob Bondurant Named Grand Marshal of the 2008 Mitty

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Feb. 10, 2008 – ORMOND BEACH, Fla.

Sometimes it’s not so bad to let the past catch up with you. Just ask legendary racer and driving instructor Bob Bondurant, who will be Grand Marshal of the 2008 Classic Motorsports Mitty May 2-4 at the historic Road Atlanta race track. And if his reputation is any indication, he is likely to catch up with you very, very quickly.

Bondurant first came to fame in the early ‘60s when he charged to the forefront of international motorsports. He was Corvette Driver of the Year in 1959, competed for the 1964 World GT Championship in a Cobra Daytona Coupe at LeMans, won the 1965 World Manufacturer’s Championship in a Shelby Cobra, and successfully raced Formula One Ferraris and Can-Am Chevrolets before a career-ending crash in 1967.

The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving opened its doors in 1968. Bondurant went on to teach thousands of people high-performance driving techniques, and today the Bondurant school is the largest facility of its kind in North America.

Bondurant himself remains active in vintage racing, making him a natural fit for the Classic Motorsports Mitty, which brings an amazing array of significant vintage race cars and classics to the Road Atlanta track and paddock.

GRM Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty ups the ante further, bringing a vendor midway, autocross competition and many other features to The Mitty.

Now in its 31st year, the Mitty has become one of the largest historic racing weekends in the country. This year’s events include historic racing, autocross runs in new Mazda MX-5s, plus the Historic Formula 1 Grand Prix, inaugural Miller Cup Mustang race and much more.
