I've been writing fiction for going on three decades now, and always editing to address a particular complaint--"There's too much car stuff!"
So, I decided to write a story that goes the opposite direction, and doesn't hold back on the car stuff at all. Burt Levy I am not; this is a highly improbable but hopefully entertaining fantasy that's more like a cross between Indiana Jones and the Gumball Rally. I practically turned the cars into characters, in fact.
The story is in the editing phase now, and that's where I need to humbly request assistance. Being the sort of reader for whom car details are everything (I once had to put down an otherwise decent book because the author kept talking about the main character's "seven year-old Plymouth Volare" in a story that was set in 1998), I've tried to do my homework with the vehicles in my book but there's no substitute for hands-on experience. If anyone out there has driven, raced or especially restored any of the cars listed below (or anything similar), I'd love to chat via email and run some things past you to make sure the book's events are believable.
Porsche 911 RS ('72); Lancia Stratos; Hudson Hornet 7X; Allard J2X; Dodge Custom Royal D500 ('59); Ferrari 250 LWB; Alfa Romeo Giulia ('64)
