    ... is a Dodge RAM 2500 with the V10?

Will it make me start digging for oil in my yard in short order?

One's just turned up on the local CL. Oh, and a Subaru Brat, but that one doesn't appear to have any seat in the bed nor a shell for the back...

I see nothing wrong with having a V10. Strike that; I see nothing wrong with you having a V10.

If you need something for towing vacant houses to new locations....maybe a V10, tho a diesel would be the better choice. If you need to spend all sorts of money at your local gas station, and don't want to throw your cash away on Lotto tickets....not so bad.

But if this is a dd....not so good.

It would be a combination of winter wheels and 'haul all sorts of crap' vehicle. Thing is that around here, the V10s seem to be a lot cheaper than the smaller engined variants, so there's some immediate money in the gas kitty.

But then again, I'm not sure that I want something that gets 8-10mpg and drive it for 60 miles/day.

Yes, but this one goes to 10. That's two badder innit?

Well, it's two slurpier at least...

I'm just wondering if they also have the problem with the fragile transmissions. Wikipedia suggests the V10 and the Diesel share the same trans, but I think the Cummins has more torque.

there's a reason the V10 trucks are cheap- the Dodge V10 wasn't a very good fit in the Ram. it is big, heavy, and thirsty- but not very powerful for how big it is. plus, they sound like crap if you put any sort of aftermarket exhaust on them. unless you are hauling a lot of weight a lot of the time, i'd get one with a V8. but the Dodge and Ford trucks aren't known for their gas mileage. if you want a later model full size truck, get a Chevy/GMC. the early '00's models can be found in good shape for under $5k and they come stock with LS engines under the hood..

TBH the smart thing for me would be to buy a Subaru or some sort of Audi quattro and rent a truck when I need one.

But if I were smart, I wouldn't be buying vehicles on a regular basis either.
