Welcome to the (un)official GRM - Gran Turismo 5 racing League - Series 5.

This is a championship series based on the cars and spirit of the Grassroots Motorsports (and what is available in GT5).

This league will consist of 10 races run weekly, and 2 classes (TC and Shuf).

TC Cup - This is a championship based on Touring Car style production based cars.

    • Allowed Cars: Any production based car, including NASCAR cars, that have a Power Point level of 625 points
    • Specifically Disallowed cars: No Prototype or Formula 1 or Formula GT open wheel style cars.
    • Production (non-race) cars: Production cars are allowed.
    • Tires: No restriction
    • ABS: Allowed
    • Traction Control or any other aids: Not allowed

    Shuf - Shuffle Series

    • Allowed Cars: Randomly assigned for each race
    • Power Point Level: Set per race event (see below)
    • Shuffle Ratio: 5 (subject to adjustment)
    • 5 sprint races will be run per event, typically 1 or 2 laps (see event list)
    • Races will be set to automatically cycle with a 2 minute break between races
    • Points for each event are an average of finishes for races during that event.
    • ABS: Allowed.
    • Traction Control or any other aids: Not allowed

    Points:

    1st - 10 points 2nd - 8 points 3rd - 7 points 4th - 6 points 5th - 5 points 6th - 4 points 7th - 3 points 8th - 2 points 9th - 1 point

Points for the championship will consist of your 8 highest scores. With this, missing a race won't eliminate your chances.

First tie breaker is total wins. Second tie breaker is a 1 lap shootout on the final track of the season.

    Rules:

    1. You will have to compete using the same car throughout the series. Changing your car with result in a DQ. Buyers remorse option: If you find your car choice to be uncompetitive in the first race you can opt to take a DQ for that race and use another car for the rest of the series. You of course will sacrifice one of your 2 allowed drops doing this.

    2. You can however tune / tweak your car to the limits of your class.

    3. All driving aids are off (TCS, Driving line, etc), unless otherwise specified (e.g. ABS)

    4. Racing etiquette applies (e.g. it is the responsibility of the overtaking driver to ensure a clean pass).

    5. Punting Courtesy Rule: The following driver is responsible for not making contact with the car in front. If you push someone else off of the track via a rear end collision, you are required to wait for them to return to the track and allow them to stay in front of you for at least one turn. Optional (if you feel really bad about it) suggestion: If you clearly damage a car by ramming it, follow that car into the pits for repairs.

Keep the racing clean. Repeated violations / complaints will result in a DQ.

    Registration:

If you would like to compete in 1 or more classes, please send me a PM (or post in this thread if you don't mind everyone knowing your entry) listing:

    • PSN ID
    • GRM ID
    • Desired Class(es)
    • Desired Car

    Custom Tracks:

This series will rely heavily on participant provided custom tracks. Download the tracks by going to the creators (listed in event schedule) community listing. The requirements for custom tracks:

    • Must have pit stop (no kart based tracks)
    • Must be final and shared at least 1 week prior to event.
    • Please share track as much a possible prior to event.
    • Leave notice in thread when the track is updated.
    • Time of day, time advance rate, weather etc are all set by the creator.
    • May be tweaked until 1 week prior to the event.

    Schedule:

Races scheduled to be held on Wednesday evenings. Each class race would run sequentially, with TC going first at 8PM Central Time (9ET, 6PT). Shuffle Class will go approximately at 8:45PM Central Time. A 15 minute warm-up period will be given between the 2 races.

    Attending Events:

Races are held in Private Lobbies in the hopes of improving connections (not much held here) and avoid interlopers. The room should be open at least 30 min before the race for practice and qualifying but many times it will be open an hour or more.

Please send friend requests to: Allaircooled and Greafin10 on PSN. Grea generally has a room open first, but if I will open a room.

I added some more info on custom tracks. As a reminder, feel free to mess with your tracks (including time, weather etc) up to 1 week prior to the event.

As a reminder, this Wednesday we have:

Round 1 on Moonshiners Run [a BradLTL creation which can be downloaded from his profile in the Community screens]

We will be doing 17 laps in TC and 1 lap in Shuffle

The Shuffle race will be at 480 power points with 5 races (2 min between races)

The shuffle races can be practiced in your Lounge. It will allow you to run a shuffle race by yourself, but you of course will not likely get much variation in cars.

    is the power limiter allowed?

If it's not breaking, what fun is it?

    !!!!!

This has snuck up on me, I have done 0 testing of TCs on my own course. I probably should get on this, even though I have it narrowed down already. The 2 cars are vastly different.

Power Limiter is allowed, and highly encouraged. You probably want to have a car that has some headroom in both power and downforce so you can tune both (depending on the course). This is a pure PP race (TC that is). Many have said PP is crap... I guess we will see.

I have my TC car chosen. Didn't do extensive research, but I like the car (actually came with rear weight bias despite being a front engined car!)

The reason I started with Moonshiners run is because of all the courses, it is the one all of us might have some experience with. Don't worry it comes back pretty quickly.

As a reminder, for everyone but Brad (to late for him). You can make modifications / optimizations to your course up to a week before it is used. Try to keep it pretty similar, but messing with how the corners flow can be useful. Also, weather and time (and time progression) is set by the creator of the track. There are some interesting possibilities here.

If you do change your track, please share it and let all of us know so we can re-download a copy.

I know what I'll be doing tonight

haha same here! glad I saw this. I was just gonna check out the series 4 thread to see what's up and I saw this. The good thing is I know what car i'm using so it shouldn't be too much for me to get ready, buuuuut then it all comes down to how nice the server is for me.

one thing, how is NASCAR a production based?

No idea if i'm going to make it. I haven't done any testing since the last race, and won't have time tonite, either.

I can show up and race, but i would like to avoid the "Supra Scenario" in which i just pick a car that i think will be good, don't have time to test, and then have a miserable time with the car the entire series again.

I suppose if all else fails i'll just use the FTO.

I am going to be very low on practice also.

Please note that I added a "buyers remorse" clause to the rules. If you happen to pick a bright pink Supra for your TC car and you find it is totally uncompetitive in the first race, you can sacrifice one of your drops and change cars for the next race.

If we end up with a low turn out (I realize the holidays can be a bit of a distraction) we can always push until next week and maybe just practice the first few custom tracks. We might end up pushing the race after Christmas for the same reason. It's not like anyone (Hunter ) is going to win a trophy or anything.

I dunno about that(yeah I do ) the races we did during testing always seemed to be pretty competitive and we did get a bunch of different 1st places.

The sheet metal on the hood is required to be the same as the production car from which it is based. No really... that's it...

The GTR TC is a good base / safe choice. It's easy to drive consistently.

I don't have the GTR TC, though. I'm not enamored enough with the game anymore to pay for the DLC.

I'll probably either run the FTO or that Super Touring Astra.

I did some practice with F40 and Mini last night. I think I freaked them out a bit because I let my friend drive for a bit (who does not have a lot of experience in GT) so they probably thought I was drunk or something.

Not entirely sure of my setup at this point. This race (and maybe all the TC races) might become tire critical races. I originally thought these cars would be easy on tires (because of the downforce) but it is starting to look like they will be tire shredders.

Tire shredders, yes. Yes, they are. Mainly the rear, lol.

    A procedural note:

For the Shuffle race we are currently planning on 5 1 lap races with 2 min between each race. This should take about 25 minutes, which might be a bit short so I am reserving the right to add additional races if we have time everyone is OK with it.

I think the races have historically been setup to run 30 minutes, but usually take more like 45 (usually because of start delays). With no real need for practice, and since it is after the TC race (no need to wait for participants) we can start right after the TC race. Heck, we could end up doing an hour if we wanted to, but that is probably a bit much.

Anyway, we will just sort of figure it out as we go, the points are averaged anyway (I HAVE to remember to get pics of the finish order). We did do a practice session last week but I got to into it (I should say to busy showing everyone how bad I was at the course) to remember to time how long things took.

BTW - This weeks shuffle is at 480pp, the second highest of the series (SPA is 500). Each week has a different setting, so we will see the full spectrum.

yes they are as I was finding out last night but I think it'll be a tight race. I'm ready, whether the server is or not lol Still debating if I want ABS or not, I have gotten so used to no ABS.

Ben, you KNOW you want that RX7 TC

Honestly, the lower PP cars don't seem to be at much of a disadvantage to the 625 cars. My subie super tourer is at 601 and I was doing quite well in the testing races. Same with your Astra. The FTO, I'm not so sure about it, it's really low on power but it's stupid light and 4wd, might do better on gas and tires. I know it's one of the nicest handling cars I have, but it's never really seemed fast.

    Disregard.

My Subie was at best 12 seconds slower than the GTR TC. So now I'm scrambling to find something to use.
