I know there are plenty of GRMers playing this right now. Post up your gamertag and I'll add it to the list. We need to get some gaming going.

Every week we're going to pick a new car and track and do lap challenges. The details are at the bottom of this post. These events can be done offline for those of us whose schedules are too erratic to play in online groups.

I have to figure out a solution to a problem before I can play online though. Where my wheel is set up I don't have internet access and where I have internet access I can't have my wheel by orders from swmbo. I'm working on having a solution in the next couple of weeks.

I like this idea alot. The whole "drive a track and submit times" so people don't need internet is seomehting i used to do with the earlier GT games on a different forum.. i should check to see if that forum is still around...

Yeah, scheduling online time isn't really easy for me, something I can do on my own time is definitely preferable.

How about the Toyota Vitz you get for winning all 3 Sunday Cup races as the first car? I'll have to play again to pick out a track.

I was thinking soemthing like the cheapest Miata for sale from the dealerships, so at least it's a pretty premium car. comes in 4 colors for your enjoyment. That way we can at least be happy with looks and the in car view and not depressed that we waited so long for cars that look like GT4.

Something like oil change only, tires that come on it, and a specific track? We could make a series out of it, too, which would be fun as long as we're honest on the honor system of submitting times.

I"ve been wanting a PS3 for Cmas, and this TT idea is just fueling the fire. I remember the Vitz in GT 2 was a real little skreemer. Sonny I remember when we didn't even have rubber tires on our video race cars, we paddled them along like fred flintstone...

Details posted for the lap challenge. The 89 Miata is 17K credits. We'll start with the High speed ring. We're all adults, let's make the honor system work on this.

I couldn't love GRM the magazine or the website more, and believe me, I don't like to be the P.C police or anything or the guy who has a problem with everything thing, but I do have a problem with this... I find it a bit offensive that you use terms like "ADULTS", "RESPONSIBLE" etc etc... for your little descriptions or whatever in the GT5 TIME TRIAL GAME. I myself do not have special needs, nor am I A WILDEBEEST, but I feel sensitivity for people with special needs as I am BIGGER THAN YOU AND CAN SWING A BAT, and my Girlfriend is pursuing her masters in the field. These terms although I'm pretty sure are not even real words, are obviously meant to resemble the words used to describe people with EXTRA AGE and MILEAGE, and it appears that they are used on these boards in a joking sense which, as I view it, makes light of people who are DECREPIT. It just dosen't seem right to me, thats all. I know that it's not my message board, and that noone forces me to post here, but all the same, some things are wrong when they really don't need to be.

Online is petty basic and silly at this point, but they are supposed to make improvements (maybe some this weekend). Here is a quick overview I found:

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-26-gran-turismo-5-online-article

One interesting point from the article is that they wanted to delay the game again (!!!!) because the on-line was not up to snuff...

More importantly, why is he paraphrasing this classic motorsports post from 2008? (....a post which didn't make any sense then, either)

After further looking, I think that this is a reference to a CMS troll named "Vito82". Perhaps it's a bit of a meme/inside joke amongst the uberdorks.....I feel like I'm on the verge of discovering their secret handshake.

Looks like 132.978 is my best for the night. I keep getting squirrely in the S-turn.

I'm thinking sometime in the future a $20K challenge or something will be in order. Does anyone know if there's a drag strip in the game?

  • nicksta43

    Nov. 27, 2010 8:31 p.m. nicksta43 Reader

Don't know of a drag strip.

I picked up almost a full second by getting the entrance to turn 2 right. Brake really late, like later than you think you should but not really heavy just kind of breath on them. The tail will wiggle out and as soon as you get it pointed down to the apex go full throttle and if you got it right you"ll push out and almost hit the wall on exit. It will feel like it's understeering pretty bad but trying two different lines through there back to back it was consistently faster.

Left foot braking helps me get through the s-turns stable but I must have had it right from the beginning because I never made or lost time through there. All my time gained or lost came from turn 2. If I lost .050 in turn 2 that would transfer all the way to the finish line.

Yeah no drag stip is a massive oversight in my opinion. they have such a huge perfect drag strip (top gear track, they could even do something like the standing mile) but no availability. LAME

Also for the miata race, after 15 laps i got a 1:30.959. Still unsure about that 2nd corner, but I doubt i could get more than half a second out of it! I'm happy with my consistency, though, at 10 laps between 1:30.95 and 1:31.2. I usually drive like a distracted, highly caffined-up ape, crashing wildly every other lap or so. OK, sometimes it was more intentional. It's REALLY hard to flip a challenger...

28 more late night laps for good luck and I pulled a 1:30.287! I shaved the extra time off mainly carrying just slightly more speed out of the s turn and final corner, also I took your advice on that 2nd corner and it helped, but I still can't quite get the dang thing right.. Corner speeds i've been aiming for are 120/121 through the 1st bend, about 93 (94 pushing it, 95 much too fast) through the 2nd, about 67/8 though the S-bends and flat out through the last corner. In general i've found the rumble strips on the inside are bad, they cause understeer, and I can't figure out if it's better to go over the rumble strip on the exit of the last corner or not. Any thoughts?

Shaved off 1/3 of a second but I still have a ways to go. Off to play a-spec so I can work my way to level 40 and see what "realistic" damage is all about.
