Just ran into this today, tried it out on a lock and it works! Now I have put my 10 year old master lock with missing code back into service.

Now to break into the lockers outside the welding shop at school and...

Huh. We used to crack the keyed ones with lockpicks. Rakes work reeeeaaaalllly well on them.

For the dial ones, kids would just jump on top of a bench, then jump on top of the lock, snapping it (or the locker tab) right off.

'cause we're aliens, and thats how we roll.

For most padlocks, I use home made lock shims. For knobs and dead bolts, I'd rather a bump key than a pick.

BTW, don't EVER think of ANY lock as the end-all, be-all security device. If someone has the correct tools (pick set, bump keys, shims) and the know how, ANY lock can and will be defeated. The more complicated the lock, the more time it takes to clear that obstacle.

Huh, and all these years I've been using Oxyacetylene. Go figure.

Hey Derick, How's your bumps, picks, shims, etc. work on this one:

OK, but if it has a restricted keyway, where's he gonna get the blank?

I could have shimmed the master lock, but now I know the combo and it is reusable. :)

My dad taught me how to pick locks when I was really young. Many dial and stacked disk style locks can be opened simply by having a very light touch and knowing what to feel for. He use to be in real estate and sometimes keys would get locked in houses or other agents would forget to put them back in the lock boxes etc. We use to have a game where when we would have a house like that we would see who could get in the house first. Him picking the front door and me using any other means I could find. Nine times out of ten I would find an open window or some other way to get in before he did.

He also taught me how to work my way around computer security and the ins and outs of just about any system I could come across.
