  Like the title states, which are the ones with the best "signal-to-noise" ratio?

  Vintage or Late Model? I don't know about late model, but Stangfix is the best vintage mustang forum I know. It has most of the old guys from the Vintage Mustang Forum, which was once good but now not so much.

  Sometimes I wonder "Why is that frisbee getting bigger?", and then it hits me.

  ^oops, didn't think about that. SN95 and later...S197 would be nice as well.

  I love my turbo car, but I've got a serious desire to have a V8 in my life.

  Which years are you considering, and what are your goals? For hardcore track info, Corner-Carvers is hard to beat (but read all their instructions very carefully):

  My personal favorite is my local club forum: http://www.lmmc-ct.com/forums/ A lot of great tech and very knowledgeable people in there, but honestly there's more non-Mustang talk than Mustang talk these days. The Homeowner's forum is as popular as the main forum. I guess we're all getting older!

  Centraltexasstangs.com is a great one around here. Mainly in Austin though. That's the one I used to cruise most often.

  When you can leave black marks from the exit of one corner to the entry of the next, THEN you have enough horsepower!

  A dual-duty car. An older one would be purely a play car for twisty backroads/HPDE with the occasional drive to work on a nice day.

  A newer one might become a DD/HPDE track car, so it wouldnt' go quite as hard core on the suspension side.

  As a side note, are the 2005-2006 GTs similar enough to the 2011 to drop in a Coyote? I'm guessing the new 300hp V6 in the 2011 is why you can now find nice '05-06 GT mustangs below $15k.

  I used to be real active on allfordmustangs.com in the s197 forums. There are some really knowledgable folks there, but the s-t-n ration has increased in recent years. As s a plus, they do ahve very active forums for every model ever built.

  The 05-09 bodies are similar enough to do a 5.0 swap, but you can force induce one much cheaper and have similar baseline numbers. Not saying you can get the same ultimate top end power out of the 4.6, but if you want a little more juice without breaking the bank, find a $12k GT and drop $5k on a s/c to get 450 hp installed in a weekend. Heaven only knows what a turnkey 5L will cost you.

  Corner-carvers is my second favorite forum in the whole world. I've been there since 2007 and have yet to make a single post, though.

  yes, they will fry you unmercifully if you post anything that can be construed to be newbish or if they think you haven't searched. Tons of info is available but they have short tempers over there.
