Redoing my exhaust pipe after it fell off last summer.

So exit stage right (passenger side) or all the way to back?

    Side it is.

Too much effort to do a rear ported exhaust.

I still need to sort out the connection between the header and down pipe.

    Bolt or clamp.

I'm also going to add a 3rd support near the flange for extra support.

Looking good Andre'.. Side exhaust, avoid any 90's if you can = less pipe, less weight & maybe a little better flow.

Hope you got it done today...

Well it needed to be that long to get around the unibody framing.

I'll have it hung by Monday night.

I dont think its any longer then there other one.

Just need to put together a bolt up between the header and the down pipe.

Can't weld it into 1 piece.

Andre- I suggest bolts, it's much easier to r & r the system. I've had my engine out 3 or 4 times and the bolt connection never leaks. I 've never liked clamps, they only seem to seal good the first time. Dougie

I'm going to check into it.

Space is a concern so a flange might not work, but it would make for a better link between the header and down pipe.

I did check to see if I could join the two, but not possible. You can't get the setup in to location so it has to be a two piece.

go to Summit Racing and search band clamps. They make versions for slip joints as well as butt joints. Once you use band clamps, you'll never want to use a pipe-distorting U-clamp again.

I use a band clamp for the header to exhaust pipe connection the racing Spit. It allows me to easily pull the engine with out dropping the entire exhaust and to keeps the pipe close to the body. I did add an additional hanger fairly near the clamp. I didn't think the band made as rigid a connection as a standard clamp.

Just be aware that if you run up against a wall at the track, it's going to be incredibly loud inside the car as the sound bounces off the wall and back into the window. I had a side exhaust on the TR8 race car for a while. The first time out with the side exhaust at NHIS, I rounded the last turn and set off down the front straight for a practice and qualifying session. As I came up along the wall, the noise was so loud I almost yanked the wheel hard left to avoid what I was sure was a GT1 car screaming by. Got me again the next Spring when I went to NHIS again. After that, I went back to the rear exhaust with tips that could be turned away from whatever side of the track sound control was on.

Open car so it does not make a difference.

Hell when the system fell off last fall my head was buzzing.

Speaking of I need to book my apt with the ear clinic to get my custom ear pieces made.

Excuse the down photos. Working on the server.

Did the L bracket between the header and down pipe last night.

Just need a fancy cut at the tip to match the body line.

Added a 3rd support near the flange for extra support.
