Carnage from the last race at the NJ Historics. This is from my 1500 Spridget engine. It had at least 60 weekends of racing, so I can't complain.
THREE pistons at TDC!

Note hole in cylinder wall where rod punched through into water jacket.

Ouch. Thorough job, that...
Sanity is vastly overrated.
I have an extra 1500 engine block, crank and head for free if you want it. IIRC two cylinders have pitting so it would require significant overboring if not sleeves. Its in SC though.

Thanks for the offer! But at this point, my plan is to move away from the Triumph engine my 1500 Spridget came with a replace with a 1275 "A" series engine.
For me this makes sense because, I'm building another "A" series powered vintage race car anyway (Austin A-35) and I already have several decent 1275 engines (both to be rebuilt over the Winter). And I have plenty of ribcage transmissions too.
Right now my most complete A series is a stock 948 (Bugeye) engine. I'm putting it in the Spridget right now, just so I can run the VRG Watkins Glen events in two weeks (I'll probably need a calendar to measure lap times
).
Again, thanks for the offer!

Just curious, did it keep running? My 1296 had a rod let go and punched a fist sized hole in the block at Pocono. I drove the car to the flag station where they put out the oil fire. I was amazed when I saw what happened. Tough little tractor motors.
I hope it happened late in the event, would add insult to injury if it happened during Friday practice. Overall, was it a good event?
(Besides that, did you enjoy the play Mrs. Lincoln?)

Yeah, it kept running. I shut it off. The hammering wasn't really that bad....I thought it was wheezing with a bad head gasket (it was steaming because all the coolant had gone into the oil via the new block orfice.
It happened on the last (7th) session, and actually about half way through. I'm really glad it didn't happen at our upcoming Glen weekend (in two weeks).
The event was excellent. I'll post pictures and video when I get a chance (I'm busy putting a 948 in the Spridget right now).
