So I've been looking at other cars besides Triumphs as I plan and dream about my vintage racing future...

A friend on mine runs a 124 Sedan in the VARAC series.

He has been feeding me info on the 124 Spiders and Coupés.

    Damn tempting platform.

1.8 twin cam, 4 disc brakes, 5 speed and a lot of parts out there still...

Will have to keep reading and learn more.

I thought the Triumphs were on the dark side?

Italian cars don't leak oil like a good British car will so they rust faster too.

    Haha...

    I'm still working on a GT6 deal.

Possibly a MK3, but its out west which poses a problem.

I remember this car when it was out West here. Hard time to sell most anything though.

This car would put you at the front of most grids. Tom's cars are always well prepared and engineered.

Sprites are one of the best cars to start vintage racing in, the color might work too.

    It's actually a TR250.

2.26's at VIR is right about what the CMS TR3 would do there. The fastest TR4's, MGB's, 356's are in the 2.21-2.19 range. Considering the tires they are running, that is hauling.

Keep in mind, any Bugeye running that fast is tuned to a millimeter of it's life.

The fastest Fiata 124 in vintage racing (at least on the east coast) runs in the 2.24 range at VIR.

I have a long history with Andrew and his 124 Sedan. When he chose the sedan, the spider was not yet vintage for VARAC. I got to Mosport to see his first race and watched him finish. At least he got off the track before the next race started. Now he runs at the front of the pack with that little brick. The spider would have better access to body panels and his configuration would make you competitive. Cheers Ron

I'm pretty sure I know the 124 sedan you're talking about. If it's the same guy, he ran the PVGP at BeaveRun a few years ago...same class I ran in at that event.

Not true. My old blue car, now driven by Tim Butler, has done 2:19's with both him and I in it. A 1756 ((+1 mm over) with 40 IDF's and 32mm chokes. 13x6.5 with Toyo RA-1's.

These are GREAT vintage race cars.

Looks like I just got my paws on a good deal for some RA-1's.

Used, but will do me well enough for the next season.

i think there is a thread in here that has a link which points you to a site where they sell vintage cars. price range from $1500 and up. but i think i did not see any spider 124 in there. i think i saw someone in here selling that spider 124 but with a bad engine leak but head gasket set is only cheap part to buy. i forgot the price of the spider. give me your number so i can get in touch with you if see again that thread.
