The Small Bore Cup presented by Classic Motorsports returns for 2011. Race dates are confirmed, but most of the sanctioning bodies haven't updated their schedules to show it yet.

We'll be hitting both coasts this year, so West Coasters will have an opportunity to try the mini-enduro format as well. We'll have staff at all of these events, so keep your eyes out for the cameras!

I'm very glad there's no date conflict with the Jefferson 500 this year. I hope to make it up there myself!

Tom unfortunately for us out west the June 4th/5th Button Willow event in Cali does conflict with GRL's Sonoma Historic Festival, http://www.generalracing.com/ I'm glad you did include the left coast this year maybe next year a few more events.

It's fantastic that "The Cup" is coming out West to race with VARA. Who is the CM point of contact over specific Cup race rules? An email address wouild be great. I understand that the sponsor club is in charge of registration, but who's rules are used/enforced for things like tech, flagging, qualifying, protests, exceptions/exemptions, etc?

    Thanks, Troy

Everytime I read about the series, I'm reminded that I chose poorly when chose the race car I have....

    oh, well.

(unless, a '74 GTV with a 2.0l would be allowed...)

Many of us are still waiting for the specific rules of the Small Bore Cup to be published. It's hard to plan for a race in less than two weeks with no info. We've been pretty patient, how about some details...

    Hi Troy-

I haven't had any answers on your specific questions yet, but I sent out the question again to the appropriate parties.

Most of the rules regarding tech, flagging, qualifying, protests and the like will follow the sanctioning club's guidelines, but as I said I hope to get direct answers for you.

There are not specific rules for the series. Here is how it breaks down. The cars must be on the list or in the same spirit as cars on the list. You know looking at the list of cars at the small bore site if your car is in the same spirit as the other cars. The race is run like this:

All the basic info for the small bore series is at this web link including the car list.

    http://classicmotorsports.net/smallbore/

If there is a car that is not on the list but that seeks entry they can always ask as long as they are in the general spirit of the series with the car they should be allowed to run.

This is a standard indexed enduro race.

Take the times from the field sand assign the slowest a 2 min pit stop.

Calculate how many laps the slowest car can do. palm beach 22 laps.

How many laps the others need and subtract from the pit time.

pit in and pit out person and they time each car on the in and out.

Here is the race format and scoring system:

    • Race duration: 45 minutes minimum…1:15 maximum
    • One mandatory pit stop….we use our standard pit stop procedures and rules
    • Slowest qualifying car is assigned a 2 minute pit stop
    • For a 45 minute race we calculate how many laps the slowest car can complete in 43 minutes…i.e. race duration minus his 2 minute pit stop
    • For all other entrants, calculate how many minutes it will take to complete the same number of laps that the slowest qualifying car can complete in the 43 minutes….subtract that number of minutes from 43 minutes….the balance becomes their pit stop time
    • The result in theory will have all cars take the chequered flag at the same time….

With this format, each car is indexed to the same performance….accordingly, every one is in the same class and scored by finishing position: 10,8,6,4,3,2,1,1,1,1,1,

    make sense?

The sponsoring club will follow their standard rules for flagging, tech and protests. Those rules are available from them at their site or by calling them.

Is this series for one driver only or are co-drivers allowed?

I have entered the first one with VARA April 2-3 at Willow Springs.

We had a great time with the CM Small Bore Cup race at Willow Springs Int'l Raceway last week. Fun format, and congrats to all the competitors. Here's a pic of me and my Lil' Red Wagon in the heat of battle.

I had hopes of attending the CMS event at Buttonwillow Raceway on June 4th & 5th but it conflicts with the GRL Sonoma Motorsports Festival at Infineon on the same weekend that I'm racing in. Maybe next year for me, looks like you good fun.
