Right that AutoPro bar is not going to cut it.

    So for my next adventure.

    I've order some 1.50 x 0.95 DOM tubing. A 120' of it infact.

Stolen a bender and cutter from a friend and will start on this problem next week.

I now have to make a quick decision on the seat mounting because that will affect bar setup.

    Weeee....

Andre - A friend used black pvc pipe to make a model of the rollbar before actually bending the real pipe. A visit to Home depot, some plumber's glue and a propane torch allowed him to quickly confirm how things would fit...

No work today, but I managed to get my hands on a new tool.

Really had to justify this one, but between the cage, seat mounts and the fuel cell I figured I had a need for some precision cutting.

In reply to André Rousseau: Andre, your downward spiral into racedom continues. I've looks around my garage and I think I've spent more on stuff, tools, Ezups, ATV, radios, spare parts, more tools, to support my racing habit than I originally spent on the car.

It's not just the little guys who do this, next time you're at a pro race, look in the paddock. An Indy car chassis new is "only" $250,000. How much do you think the rig to haul it, with the nice 30x50 enclosure costs? How about the other stuff in the trailer or back at the shop?

Don't let your wife read this.

Have fun on your spiral, meet you at the bottom.

Its a controlled decent at least.

Nothing gets done or bought with out prior authorization or conversation.

No funds are spent unless they are in the bank either. I will not allow dept or loans for the "hobby."

I am still focused on the June 2010 race, but there are a lot of jumps and hurdles to get across before that car even sees a track.

    110' arrived.

The delivery guy was saying to my wife "I know what he is doing... Building a cage." Then asked if the Madza Speed was a faster car.

    :)

Andre, what's that thing worth at Canadian Tire? My favourite store, nothing really like it here in Michigan. With the dollars so close , it might be a decent deal to pick one up next week when I'm in London.

    Thanks, Warren

    Andre,

Maybe I missed it (probably), but where is the GT6 living now that the Fiat has taken up garage residence?

Hope to get her interior installed, but that won't happen till after Mosport in June.

    I have a mission...

I've had 3 race cars and never bothered to figure out how many feet of tubing were in the cages, I just paid sommeone else to build them. 110 feet seems like a lot, but I'd wager you figured it out before buying. How many feet in the cage, or are you building a the cage to go all the way to the suspension pickup points at front and rear?

I'm figuring under 100 so a little extra is a good thing when doing this for the first time.

If I've got left over stock I'll find use for it somewhere for sure :)

I used about 70 feet for my A35 (seen in mocked up form below). But if I ever have left over pipe or steel, I can always find a use for it (I'm building a tire rack with scrap right now).

What did you do for the drivers side door?

I'm going to go with Nascar bars because I can flare them out into the door to give me extra room.

Despite it being -25C outside we got the new main loop done.

Not done yet, but the plan is to have two bars on the right-side (driver's) door and one on the left door. This should make it OK for most vintage groups (including VARAC).

After a friend of mine took a side impact I'm still going with the door bars.
