I always wanted to go to Calabogie just because the name is so cool.

Have fun! I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I can run at least one "up North" event in 2010.

Hey June at Mosport should be pretty cool.

I'm hoping to run 2 races in 2010.

Nice gift. Wife's a keeper ! I'd love to drive Calabogie sometime, but from the price of the school the track rental fees must be pretty high.

    Track fees have gone up.

Really 250 track day or 350 race weekend.

I think I know what I'll be doing next year.

I just have never done a track day so its a healthy thing to do before the race school.

Yeah even though I have the race car, I still like to do a track day in my street Miata....keeps you sharp!

Plus it's kind of neat to just throw a few minor tools in the street car and have a low-key, fun time. It's nice to skip the entire trailer/tow van thing (we tow to about 10 events a year).

    10 events I only wish.

    Patience, Grasshopper!

I was lucky if I could ride the lawn mower around the yard when my kids were little. ;)

    Hah my wife likes that.

Still I'll be happy with 1-2 events a year and maybe work up to 3-4 in the next 5 years.

Just casual. As you said I have my little co-driver.

I haven't raced the last 3 summers because I sold the car, but here's what it costs at Waterford Hills. School in 2009 was $330, entry fees for a race weekend were around $150, I think. That covered qualifying session and 3 races ! Can't beat those prices in too many places.

    No those are outstanding prices.

I had thought about a US school, but flight, hotel and car rental all add up to the same.

Does the Waterford Hills school get you any type of license that is accepted by the vintage groups like SVRA ? The price seems like a drop in a bucket compared to some of the others. That might make thing doable sooner.

Another idea for a school is the one held on May 21, 22, 23-2010 at the New Hampshire Vintage Festival in Loudon, NH

I've attended this event and seen the training. It's very hands on and excellent. If you are a person of reasonable skill, you can get your race license (for vintage) in one weekend. Last year the cost was about $325 (I think).

You can check the VRG website when they post more info on this event (should be coming soon).

    http://www.vrgonline.org/events_calendar/vrg_events.htm

VRG is a member of the Vintage Motorsports Council. All other VMC clubs will honour a VRG license (VARAC offered to honour mine last year). Most vintage groups will honour my NASA license too, but there's no guarantee on that so a license from a VMC club is best. SVRA, VSCCA and all the other big vintage groups are part of VMC.

Yeah lots of nice options for the US market.

I'll support the Canadian market :)

BTW its cold and snowy today.

Yeah, I agree; gotta support the home market......When I lived in Ontario, I felt the same way.

Keep the loonies in Canada. ;)

I don't know about various vintage organizations, but the SCCA accepts the license and the school. If anyone is interested in the Waterford school, there's information on their website (Waterfordhills.com). It's normally held in late april or very early May.

I just looked at the Waterford site and the school is May 1/2 on track. That means the classroom sessions are the week before.

Never done the winter racing thing.

    Too focused on the summer.

Making some serious setup/cost decisions this week.
