Hee! I have been told, by an unnamed source who was in a position to know, that if I built a 0.030 over 340 for my Dart, I'd still have the smallest engine in the class (for an unnamed sanctioning body). I responded that I was going to play it straight for the next few years, but if I started driving better and still was getting eaten alive on the straights, I'just go ahead and build a 416. However, since I've written the rules to match my car anyway, I think I'll just focus on getting the car lighter and better ballanced, improving the driver, and having fun.

    Good plan.

Vintage is not always about winning.

If your lucky you'll find other drivers in the same time bracket and will have some amazing driving battles.

65 Dodge Dart picsSpeaking about Dodge DARTS, a pair of brothers who joined our historic race group last year just completed a 66 Dart and they had the shakedown last weekend in Milleville NJ. Rob owns the Dart and his brother James has the 66 Barracuda. The Dart is a recreation of a Group 44 A production Dart from a set of pictures taken when the car ran Sebring in the day. Last weekend, a former Bob Tulius crew member of the car happened to be at the track and checked out the car.

The shakedown went well but bragging rights for the weekend went to the Barracuda, best time of 1:29 vs a 1:31 for the Dart. Nice couple of guys and great cars.

Actuall been corresonding with James intermitently for abouut a year. He's a lerker on a MOPAR Road Race, Autocross, Hill Climb, etc.. mailing list I subscribe to (Holy Subculture Batman!). Road racing Darts and other MOPAR early A-bodies just seem to have sprung out of the ground like a crop of mushrooms after a rain over the past year or so, I'm aware of 4 '65-'66 Darts, counting my own, just on the East coast.

    Well it makes sense.

You have a car that you really like... You want to drive it... Silly things interior kits, paint, insurance and keep the costs climbing...

Suddenly your building a race car. Which cost 2-3x more then the interior kits, paint and insurance, but who is counting.

    Go racing.

Slightly off topic, but how would one go about getting on that mailing list?

In reply to AndreGT6: In my case, I lucked out and bought the Dart race prep'd for $5690.00 including shipping. There have of course been large additional expenses as I converted it from ICSCC BP to SVRA AS state of tune, got the body tidied up, and sorted out set-up, clutch and spares, but I fugure I started out about $20K ahead.
