Going more for reliability this time - the 5.0 mgb was too short of a build time - don't want another dns

I've been looking at some stuff for challenge-friendly options - what would you rather see showing up?

89 325is - cheap - enough budget left for upgrades

    86 944 - scruffy but solid

87 535is - heavy but not typical - CL sellers are getting on my nerves though

    74 2002 - ???

91 miata - is the answer miata?

535 or 2002, but I'm guessing neither could be fast enough (easily) to win.

944 all the way. They may not be the fastest thing of 4 wheels, but they are still one of the best looking cars ever built. Yes, I was a teen during the 80's haha.

I'm really looking forward to the April edition of the mag turning up. I still remember the last 944 article they did a few years ago after which the went and did a project 944. I recall the author, I can't remember which of the staff it was, talking about lusting after 944's in the 80's right up until he discovered Porn of the non automotive variety, still make me laugh now.

The 535is sounds good to me. I was just checking one out on CL not even 10 minutes ago.

The 325is would probably have a better chance, but as an e28 owner I vote for the 535i.

Another vote for the e28, the challenge needs angry m30 sounds.

+1 944! And then you should sell it to me when you're done.

Better to be a racer for a moment than spectator for a life time.

Did you blow your budget on the MG? I think that would be pretty cool as well.

Yep - I was at the very limit and had to trust some original hydraulics - of course they were shot and ended up a DNS. Ended as a spectator. When I got home I threw some money at it - so it's about a 2k over budget now.

There is a fast guy in an e28 535 at the Windy City BMW club. I could find his name, you might want to contact him about these if you go that route.

there’s a lot of debate on this subject—about what kind of car handles best. Some say a front-engined car; some say a rear-engined car. I say a rented car.

I would do a car that noone else has yet run. BMW 3 series? No. 944? Miata? Yawn.
