is about 100 times better. I was having trouble getting the .mkv file to play smoothly on my laptop and pc and didn't feel like reading 7 pages of technical jargon to figure it out. So I simply load the file to a jump drive, plug it into the USB slot on my samsung and it plays perfectly right off the usb drive. This just made my week....such a trivial thing, but since I have to work on the 3rd instead of being a redneck and enjoying the Grand-Am race and Daytona 400, this will somewhat suffice.

I have a PC hooked up to my TV and use VLC player to watch Top Gear in HD. (I do enjoy it more in HD.)
How new is that Samsung and what's the model number? I need to check that out. I could hook up an external USB hard drive and skip the PC.

I stick it on a USB drive and plug it in to the PS3. Works a treat! (Am I too American to say that?) Works like a charm!

Ended up watching the SD version on Sunday night because the HD torrent was craaaawling.
I have sound SMPlayer ( http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/ ) handles some .mkv files a lot better than VLC, depending on what codec was used inside the container.

I use mkv2vob to convert it to an .avi file; then stream it over the PS3. Takes about 2 minutes and is great quality.

Or just turn on the cable box and watch a watered down BBC America HD version. Doesnt get much easier than that.

I've got my old gaming rig (1.8 GHz AMD lolz) hooked up to my 37" LCD. I stuck it in a nice HTPC case so it doesn't look out of place with the rest of the AV equipment. It's an awesome setup for watching Top Gear and movies that I "purchased" over the internet.

Some of their models even support network streaming from any PC on your network. You don't even need the flash drive part, just sit and watch. I <3 technology!

We also have a Samsung with USB ports. It's a 6000 series (UN55B6000) LED LCD that we got last December.
I have the 1080i version of Top Gear here - 3.XX gigs but it didn't take that long to download. Can't watch it yet because the wife likes the show as well and gets mad at me if I watch it without her, and I'm not sneaky enough to watch it now and pretend I hadn't when we both sit down to see it later.
