I'm going to be buying new tires for my 2000 Chevy Impala 9C1 in 225/60/16. I'm looking for a high performance tire that also won't slide around in the rain and cause me to go broke. The factory Goodyear Police Spec Goodyear RSA-Plus are a little pricey. I've narrowed down to:

Goodyear Eagle GT - close to the police spec, available at Walmart for road hazard convenience

Kumho Ecsta ASX - I don't think I've had anyone put down Kumho yet. I actually found these also at Sears besides Tire Rack

Hankook Ventus V4ES - Pep Boys has these in the buy 3 get 1 free category. Seems a little less "all season" than the others.

Cooper Zeon Sport - Pep Boys has these in the buy 3 get 1 free category. Appears to be a new tire

Sumitomo HTR+ - good price at the Tire Rack, lowest price overall.

I would like to run the Maxton Mile next year, go to the Dragon nearby a few times, and handle well when I take the interstate ramp corners to fast.

    Fire away with the input.........

I've ran the Kumho ASXs on the Cobra, but I didn't get a chance to autocross 'em 'til they were past their prime. When I did, they definitely felt greasy once they got any heat in 'em.

I got about 15k miles before the dry traction started going away (amazingly enough, the wet traction seemed to not be affected), and I think I replaced them when they had ~18k on 'em (got a good deal on rims that had tires on 'em).

I've heard bad things about the Sumis, though I couldn't give you anything specific.

Coopers are one of the few (only?) tire companies in the U.S., for whatever that's worth.

I'm pretty happy with Bridgestone G009's, although they've been recently replaced by the G019. This is on an Olds Intrigue so pretty similar car. I don't track the thing though, but they handle water okay. They're not what I'd call cheap though, so maybe this isn't helpful.
