Brought home the new autocross car last night. I love it but my racing partner is not thrilled with it. So I have something for now, but who knows if it will stay.

I'll admit the 150 miles home was one of the best drives of my life, even with torrential downpours. It just reacts sooooo well.

Nice sticker, looks like a Ford Taurus color, hence it must be a Ford Taurus, bonus points if it's a wagon ...

It's in his garage as a 944, we're just poking fun because he doesn't have a 'real' picture and is just yanking our chains...

That's an odd badge to stick on a Mustang, maybe the store was out of Cobra badges that day?

No, I really did buy a Porsche. It's a 1986 944, so it has the better suspension, interior, steering, and wheels.

Full service records from new, all at specialist Porsche shops, has a pretty clean PPI (3 action items needed), passed Seattle DEQ/Smog (same as Cali), timing belt and water pump less than 10K ago, clutch around 50K ago, and all the right options (220 - LSD, 456 - Sport Suspension (non-adustable), 383/387 - Sport Seats). The paint and body are literally perfect, though the interior needs a little help.

Even has the ignition-disabling key in the 1/4 panel, the original locking gas cap, and all of the manuals. Even a letter from Porsche to the original owner!

I also got it for under Challenge pricing.

What's got two thumbs and 944 envy? This guy! LSD, sport seats, TB/WP/Clutch and manuals for Challenge money is a pretty screamin' deal!

Did I mention the perfect body with original paint that's never been hit? It's the only 944 that I've ever seen with a totally straight nose. Garaged it's whole life.

The 3 action items on the PPI from 2009 (when this guy bought the car, about 600 miles ago) said it had a worn ball joint, an idle something hose, and a leak from the rear diff/trans. That's an impressively short list.

I will say the GRM Buyer's Guide was a godsend. I did my due diligence, found a mid-model (85.5-86), and made sure it had all the records. I checked all the typical issues and found a generally well-sorted car.

GRM needs to do a "Buyer's Guide" on how to tell your wife about a car though, because I'm a clueless idiot at that.

She didn't balk at the Puke Green AMC Hornet, the Orange-Interior Concord Wagon, or the hasn't-run-in-28-years Javelin. If I haven't shell-shocked her yet, I never will.

Ball joints are not fun on this car as they're not really replaceable without replacing the entire A arm.

A few companies make replacement kits for your current A arms, but they're not cheap at $250. They are a heck of a lot cheaper than new A arms though, which are $500 each.

I found a kit for $185 that's specifically for autocross. Specifically for the 85.5-92 944.
