Just read this this morning. Mazda is going to continue to develop the Rotary Engine.

Mazda PR Tweets that The Company is Working on New Rotary Engine-Powered Model(s)

I love the way the Shinari looks.

    That'd be gorgeous as a two-door.

It's nice to see a slightly evil looking face on a car, too. Triple-especially on a Mazda.

    In reply to ReverendDexter:

I see what you mean, but isn't it still smiling? Nice car.

BTW, in regards to your sig - Does that mean my '65 Mustang is an unpolished turd?

That car is still smiling, but I'm somewhat afraid to ask it why.

Time for the first triple-triangle engine for the US? I don't see a two rotor making that thing fast enough to be competitive in the luxury sedan market...

Oh, have faith. The 16X is the second coming of Jesus; it's a rotary with low-end torque and good fuel economy.

    Or so they claim...

I love the Grille. Its very reminiscent of the Rx-3.

All rotaries have decent low end torque for their displacement, it just seems crappy because the torque curve keeps on ascending.

If you want good fuel economy, get a tow vehicle...

Hey! I know what. Let's make this into another thread on the merits of rotaries!

    Please don't.

As I see it, any car that's fun to drive get's a thumbs up from me. Just sometimes more UP than others.

    This is very good news.

It is better to wear out than to rust out.

Ya but what about price! Now if they were thinking of putting a three rotor in a miata and kept the price under 35 K I would be excited. The chances of me getting one of these is about as good as me getting a 2012 ZO6

    Respectfully, Dean

Extremely nice looking 4-door. Wonder if the back doors open backwards like the RX8. Can't help but wonder...Evora compitition? Hope it's wa-a-ay less expensive.

I think the rear doors are conventional and not suicide doors. The Shinari is sexy, but it looks almost too upscale for a Mazda product, as if they were gunning for Lexus or Infiniti. Not that I'm complaining, as long as they don't dilute the rest of the lineup if the Shinari ever enters production.

Sort of looks like a Karma Fisker, though I like that front end a lot.

Where's my Furai at? If a car is needed to revive the rotary that would be the way to do it.
