I finally talked my friend out of his M5. He bought it new in 2003 and has spared no expense in caring for it. It has ~88k on it, but looks pretty darn great. Almost completely stock, other than a Dinan exhaust and euro headlights. I'm still getting to know it, but it's pretty awesome!

The interior clearly needs some cleaning!

Excellent choice -- that may end up being the replacement for my E36 M3 when the time comes.

    Love the colour combo.

Thanks for the compliments! The color combo is one of my favorite aspects. I always loved the Lemans blue/caramel. It certainly was my first choice. The exhaust note with the Dinan is pretty intoxicating as well!

Love it. One of the best all-round cars ever.

The new 5-Series is really dead-sexy as well, even in "base" trim, so the M5 is going to rock.

As a result of this, you got another vote up. Relative to today's cars, its the right size. Is the new 3 series larger?

The downside of the new M5, from what I read, is that the only available transmission will be the DCT (or some version thereof). No manual and not even an updated SMG. Boo.

So...how do you like it? Compared to the E46 wagon? You have the EXACT colour combination I would look for..... I LOVE these cars....or at least, the idea of these cars. I have yet to get behind the wheel of one.

I'm still getting accustomed to the M5. It's gorgeous to look at and sounds unbelievably wicked under WOT. I giggle every time a stretch of road opens up and I can make a quick burst. And that's without hitting the magic 'sport' button!

As compared to the wagon, it feels much more brawny, but somewhat less nimble. The wagon, with the wider wheels/tires I had and the great factory sport suspension felt faster in transition. I never tracked the wagon, but might do a short session in this car, just to be able to mat it repeatedly.

Overall, quite an incredible car. A lot of car for trundling around town though. I wish I could teleport it and me to Montana for some wide open spaces.

Day 1 of my 540i6 had me reading the manual, and noting that the speed alarm was a retarded feature.

Day 2 had me setting said alarm for 85mph as I found myself well into triple digits 3 separate times in the 24 hours that made up day 1.

    Already broken.

And thanks for the compliments everyone. It took ~8 years for it to get cheap enough for me to buy it, but I love it! One of my bucket list cars.

Whoa. Can I come by and see it?

And were you perhaps turning left onto Archer Road from 13th St. yesterday, or is there just a gluttony of great looking M5s in Gainesville? If so, I was the one on the motorcycle next to you who stared a little to long.

Bastid! I'd love one of those, but not a great mix with the Colorado winters...
