  Sorry for the pun...

  I finally got the roof rack for the e30 today! I needed a way to carry road and mountain bikes on the e30. I have to carry bikes somewhere a few times a week, and it was annoying having to borrow the Ridgeline everytime. So, I bought a used Thule rack off of eBay, along with a few attachments. I bought a real "full tray" bike mount to use all the time, and a smaller "short tray" mount to use when I have to take two bikes, which is not nearly as often. The smaller mount lives in the trunk, and I can put it on in about two minutes if need be.

  

  It works great. Lowering a car makes loading bikes on the roof so much easier, too.

  Oh, btw, is it okay to Autocross with the rack on there (obviously without the bike)? It's perfectly secure (I can't move it, neither can my dad), and there aren't any sharp edges or anything. There is a WRX that runs with a basket on top.

  Looks good -- but my wife swears that a Yakima rack is better, because the crossmembers are round. I think it's more of a Ford/Chevy, thing, but I digress.

  I suppose you could autox with the rack in place, although I wonder if it moves a bit under torsional loads? That might damage the paint.

  Eh, I heard a lot of that when I was deciding which direction to go on the e30. It came down to the square bars looking better (IMO) on an e30. I also liked the Thule bike mounts better, and wanted to stick with the same brand.

  I've got it torqued down pretty good, and the nature of the design makes it pretty flexible (torsionally). I've already molested the chrome trim anyway, I can always paint it again if I take the rack off.

  Me likey that whole package. Nice E30. I usually hate pinstripes, but those red ones look very appropriate with the gunmetal TR wheels and blacked out grill.

  The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the title and author of this post is things are about to get real interesting in the Suddard household.

  I thought about that too, but it would take too much effort to put the rack on.

  This actually seems to be a trend among certain members of the "import scene." I've been seeing it quite a bit.

  It's a trend in the VW/euro scene that has spilled into the SoCal stretch-tire/low-offset Honda scene.

  Damn hipsters w/ their rusty hoods, stretched tires and roof racks...

  That looks really neat. Bonus points for obligatory mounted fixie shot . The E36 drifting with the bike is a bit daft, though.

  Mind you don't drive under anything low-hanging with a bike in place, too. I've heard of that happening before.
