So the thread on the Accord test got me thinking of cars, I would actually want to own. And I realized there are very few and even fewer I maybe one day able to afford. They are the Lamborghini Murcielago, Morgan Aero 8, Lotus Exige and Evora, Bentley Continental Supersports, Fiat 500, Ford Mustang (either the V6 or Boss preferable the Laguna Seca package). For a while it was only a four car list (Murcielago, Aero 8, Exige and Viper).

That's funny. The super-duper exotics don't entice me at all, despite their performance.
My top 5 new cars would be-
Chevrolet Corvette
Ford Mustang GT
WRX STI (it's always on my list)
Mazda 2
Ford Fiesta

I concur.
New cars are designed for the people who actually buy new cars. Gearheads, for the most part, do not buy new.
This means, over the long run, cars will get less and less gearhead friendly (see current market).
My list is even smaller than yours, as I won't even look at anything that I have no chance of being able to afford. There are cars that I'm interested in, Mustang, CR-Z, Miata, MS3, WRX, Subieyota, but when I actually think about putting $400/month for the next 5 years toward something, I can't bring myself to buy anything FWD; there's nothing I find particularly spectacular about the NC that I wouldn't be equally happy with from a used NA or NB for 1/4 the price; and the Subieyota doesn't even debut until March.

I don't know if the Murcielago is so much about performance or the fact it is just nuts. I have to be careful not to drool when I see one. The Bentley just oozes class.
I don't care for the super-exotics much either. They are finicky, expensive and not all that impressive once you've spent some time in and around real race cars. (IMO disclaimer)
My new car want list is really short
- Exige w/ track pack
- 997 GT3 RS
Hmmm... I guess that is it. I might like the track special mustang, vette or viper but I don't want to own them unless they are the full on factory race cars like the ACR-X. I think that rules them out as street cars though so I didn't include them.

GMC Sierra 2500 crew cab long bed
Cars I can't afford:
Pagani Zonda
Corvette ZR-1
Porsche GT-3
Ford GT (Not new, but..)
Cadillac CTS-V Coupe
I'm sure my list would change somewhat if I had more time to think, but there you go.

idunno, to me the Morgan and the Bentley are pretty exotic.

My top five cars are:
1) starts on cold days
2) does NOT have electrical issues every time it rains
3) door closes on the first try
4) keeps an alternator belt longer than 6 months
5) coolant temp light stays unlit.
any one of those cars would be great. short of that, I would take any of the S series of cars from Audi. I know I would still have the issues I stated above, but at least the heated seats would work for a short while.

I think of the Bentley as a luxury car and the Morgan really? I would say the Evora is more exotic then that.

IMHO, the Bentley, Morgan, and Lotuses are exotic/supercars to me. A Lotus Elise just barely crosses that threshold.
Not that I don't like them, but I wouldn't necessarily want to own one. I definitely wouldn't want to pay for one.

I guess any car that is sold in low volumes, that you rarely see on the road, costs way more than it's worth, and has an exotic price tag. I think exotics can be supercars, and supercars can be exotics, but I don't think an exotic has to be a supercar. I may be wrong.

I've come to the harsh conclusion that I just prefer to drive FWD E36 M3can-econoboxes more than anything RWD. I just find them more fun.
Of course, I always enjoy a performance version of the venerable FWD E36 M3box. Oh, and AWD rally cars, yeah them too.
Although I'm not exactly ready to sell my Miata yet either....
