Just when I thought you'd been messing with us there comes the tire wall.
How come you had so much more power than the other guys.

Damn! You were seriously making up positions too. That was VERY enjoyable to watch, you know, until that last bit. How bad is the front end?

I think there was some poutine on the track (our equivalent to a banana peel in mario kart).
Rallying; It's like skydiving, except you have to dodge trees on your way down!

Bent the lower right front control arm, broke the link for the sway-bar, bent the steering end-link, seriously dented fender (but probably will hammer back out). And that's it. It sure felt like it was gonna be MUCH worse. I exit turn one at roughly 100mph. I was probably doing about 110 or so when it came time to hit the brakes.
I guarantee there are VERY FEW cars that were out there with me that have LESS horsepower. I'm pushing 112hp at the wheels. It's all about getting through the corners much faster.

About the same feeling as watching the leeward hull bury into a wave and picking the rudder up out of the water. Just along for the ride at that point.

damn.. you were looking so clean there too.. I guess that is the price for carrying so much speed through the corners to make up for your lack of WHP

As for the story of starting shotgun on the field: T&S had me as car 17, and I was supposed to be car 1. I went to T&S that morning and gave them all my info to straighten out the confusion. When I got to grid for the race, they told me they had no number 1, and that I would have to start at the back. After pleading my case for a good five minutes, they finally agreed to let me start in the grid spot for car 17. As soon as I pulled into the spot, they gave the one minute to go signal. And the rule is, if you aren't ready at the one minute signal, you start at the back. I didn't even have my belts done yet, from 'discussing' the situation with the grid chief.

In reply to DukeOfUndersteer: That red Miata on the left at that point is a F Production car. Slicks, 200lbs. less than my car, and probably at least 80 more horsepower.

Maybe 30 more HP, unless its a E Prod car :) Top notch FP motors are putting out about 165 Crank HP

What was it that prompted the blue and white Miata to brake? I didn't see anything.

He just braked early. I had already made up my mind to follow him through 3, 4, and 5. The combo of him suprising me, me turning left in the right hand kink at 110mph to avoid him, and 3 being such a tight corner combined to end my race.

My first reaction was that the other car hit the brakes for a turn, you didn't, and you went off into the tires. I know that's not what happened, but it was my first thought. Where do you hide the nitrous?

Well, you saw what happened when you don't brake enough just a second later

In reply to racerfink:
Was that the first race or the second race? Either my Dad or me was in the grey/red rental SM you pass right at the start... That car, by the way, in addition to having probably a 200mi stock engine/ECU, we later discovered had bad eccentric bolts on the front right, yielding interesting handling characteristics. Beware of all rental race cars...

It's SCCA, so that was a Showroom Stock C Focus, and a Showroom Stock B Prelude. The dark green Miata I pass going into the hairpin on the first lap was also SSB.

In reply to NY535iManual:
That was the first race on Sunday. The first motor I had in that car was the original motor with 197k on it. It made .8 more hp than this motor, but has the dreaded short nose crank syndrome and had to be retired. I may swap it with my street car motor, as that one is closing in on 200k and should be good and loosened up now.

That looked like an extremely fun track.. Seems to have lots of runoff / safety for mishaps. As proven by your encounter. Those tire-walls shor do help.

Glad to hear its relatively minor damage.
