What an embarrassment. Owning a Ferrari does not make you a Formula One driver. Its amazing how many of these "Ferrari crash" videos are on youtube.

So are you complaining that people who drive Ferrari's are driving them like they're meant to be driven?

Would there be more Ferrari crashes than lets say, Mazda MX5 crashes?

I would say being rich doesnt make you automatically able to handle a supercar. which i think is what tr8owner is getting at. they are meant to be driven hard by people who know how to drive them hard.

I didn't realize they were meant to be crashed.

Hang on, didn't Clarkson say something about how Enzo openly overcharged the wealthy status-seekers buying his road cars to fund his racing team? If thats true (and not a hallucination of my over-caffinated brain) then wouldn't Ferraris be made to rip off rich people wanting a status symbol for the sake of funding the F1 team?

In all seriousness, though, I agree with you guys. OTOH, the other guys didn't crash, just the guy who was obviously trying to show off by owning the tackiest car of the bunch.

Hate that stuff on the street. I have much more respect for someone who balls one up at a track day than I have for someone who bashes it up on the street. I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way, but I consider them a little bit less of a shiny happy person if they do it at the track than on the street.

How can it be a midlife crisis, when I've driven sportscars my entire life?

I would never own most Ferraris, partly because they seem to make things overcomplicated and expensive for no reason, and partly because I wouldn't want people to associate me with the crowd that comes along with them.

There is a direct correlation between the amount of money you have and your driving ability.

I saw a beater Ferrari 308 parked on the street this past Saturday (faded, mismatched door, etc). It was interesting to see one that someone actually uses.

So, if I bought a nice air cooled Porsche, or an Elise, some "e-thugs" would give me a hard time because I'm driving a car that I like but may not have the mad skills to take it to 11/10ths?
    Shrug.
I'd still buy the car I want and can afford.
Put another way: do you give someone a hard time when you see them in a minivan that isn't stuffed with people?
Fact is, people revel in Ferrari/exotic car crashes even more than "other car" crashes.

I don't think that is what they meant, The problem comes when you go 11/10ths through the neighborhood anyway and put it into a schoolyard and an orphanage.

Most professional racing drivers were rich enough to race cars so I'm not really sure which way you were going with that.

Per capita... I bet Ferrari owners are no worse than the average performance car buyer... it's just that nobody takes a picture of a wrecked Suzuki Swift and post pictures to Facebook with captions like "Rich kid can't drive".

I agree there is absolutely zero correlation between your income and driving ability, but its obvious that some of the well heeled bozos on these youtube crash videos are in way over their heads. They should first learn how to drive a slower car fast before making asses of themselves behind the wheel of a Ferrari or other exotic.

I think what chafes about some of these supercar incidents as opposed to some dork curbing a Paseo is that the irresponsibility is combined with waste and yes, probably a smattering of jealousy.

If you can afford to drive a Ferrari and only drive it at 6/10ths if that's where your skill level is, fine. The problems start arising when you drive at 8/10ths and only have the skill for 7/10ths, and the fallout can affect other people. I guess that's where it starts to bug me a little. If you only have the skill to tootle along, what were you doing before you had Ferrari money? Why did you go out and buy a Ferrari if you had so little interest in driving up to this point?

I guess that part is kinda like what keeps me from picking up a Gretsch Anniversary in smoke green. If I made it a priority, I could buy one these days. But apart from having to give up other purchases, one of the main arguments against it in my head is that I'm just not that good a guitarist, and I would be a bit embarrassed to have it. I may yet do it, and it'd probably bring me some joy, but even if I play it badly, I'm not going to destroy it or hurt anybody...

Man, that was rambley... If you can afford a 1300hp Lambo, and it'll bring you joy, go for it. But there's something sad and irritating about an object of such beauty being treated in a manner that suggests the owner doesn't really appreciate what they have, either in terms of respecting or enjoying its raison d'etre...
