  I have to go look at a '97 Nissan Maxima for a friend today. My question is, does the VQ engine have a timing chain or timing belt? I used to have a '90 Maxima with the VG30 engine and it had a timing belt. Someone told me the VQ has a timing chain.

  The reason I ask is because the car has 220k on the odo and the guy wants $1000 for it. Apparently everything on the car is immaculate, it's just it has a ton of miles.

  vq is a chain.

  Dont judge on looks alone whether car or person there is often alot more there then u can see.

  VQ is chain

  VG is a belt.

  Haha doesn't matter anyway, I got there and it was a Sentra not Maxima. Huge POS that at some point the owner put NISMO and SE-R badges on with an Infiniti G20 grille, aftermarket projector headlights, and aftermarket wheels.

  Saw that there was body work done in the front door jams. Needed tires, exhaust, radio, and an interior delousing. The engine also had a nice noise coming from the timing cover.

  Called my friend and told them to look for another car.

  that and theres no way the sentra had a VQ in it for only a grand.

  Real cars only have one header!

  No VQ, just a GA. It was a joke, the guy that was selling it was a yokel with a drawl, could hardly understand him, so I could understand the confusion.

  It was told to him word of mouth, friend of a friend type of thing.
