I know they share a lot with the Supra, Weight? I saw one of these for the first time today and did a quick wiki on it when I got home. Seems like a super sleeper

FWD or RWD ? I have seen a few quick ones over the years (RWD) but not much else they do seem to be ok DD from what I have seen.

Was there a FWD Cressida? I thought they were all rear wheel drive.

My favorite is the early-mid 80s wagon. Tough to find, but they're out there. And they're cool. The engine is the same as a Supra, so a 5 speed swap is doable.

    All Cressidas were RWD.

    1976-1980 (X30)

    1981-1984 (MX63)

    1985-1988 (MX73)

    1989-1990 (MX83)

Of course you can read all about it HERE.

A 5spd was available up until the MX73 model but they (the MX73 w/stick) are rare. One just sold on Ebay.

One of these days I hope to actually do the 7mgte swap into my white '83. I've got all the pieces I just need a SKITA.

    Sorry

I could have sworn I have seen one or two over the years, maybe someone just playing games.

The early 80's Maxima's were RWD but then Nissan swapped them to FWD

There was a really good thread on this car build, but I can't seem to find it right now. OP did a lot of work to lower it correctly with the rear spring perches.

Sedans share lots of parts with Supras, including IRS. Wagons are a live axle.

All use some N/A variation of the M block I6.

They are cool cars. Like an old school IS300. They get pretty bad mileage. On the porky side but solid. You wont ever make one handle without spending 2 fortunes and years of R&D. Not something to bother with unless you are really in love IMHO.

Because Toyota hasn't made anything interesting since 1989

When they phased out the Cressida, I'm pretty sure they replaced it with the Avalon, which is Camry based and FWD.

Ken Gushi built one to "practice" in. 2JZ and all. Serial Nine makes some suspension stuff for them I think, been awhile since I looked into it.

Turbos are like ketchup, they make everything better!

I'm not in love, But I thought it would be easy to make a street sweeper with one. I like my cars to handle and got spoiled on cheap after market parts with Camaros and Mustangs. A two jay zee swapped 4 door from the 80's would leave everyone scratching there heads

All I have to say about them is changing a heater core in one is an experience I never want to have again.

No, the list is very short: "RWD, stickshift, must be able to find parts". It's just what it describes that's pages and pages long.

I do. I swear. It is only 12 cars and 2 bikes. That is short right.

I had an 87 that I inherited when my Grandmother died. She was directly in the target market for these cars.

It was very much a Toyota-- Mercedes copy. All of the controls were slow and deliberate, much like a Benz. The seats were very comfy thrones (again like a Benz). The car felt very solid, and was of course heavy. (Benz, benz benz)

It wasn't any fun to drive, but was an absolutely great long distance touring car. That thing would eat up miles and you'd get out of the car after 1,000 miles feeling fine. I usually got 18-23mpg

I suppose you could make one faster, stiffer, more aggressive, but it would take a bunch of $$$ and your results may vary.

They are great cars for what they are, and 5spd ones do exist, but are rare. I'd put a set of Supra wheels on one, and just rock it as a comfy DD. There are better choices to make an actual performance car out of. Of course.....different strokes for different folks.......

Looks like fun to me. The MX73 grabs my attention the most, probably because it was that last one that could be optioned with a stick shift.

i just sold my 85 wagon , like any rwd japanese car, they can be slimmed , swapped , tightened and coolified. you just gotta look in the right places , people do jz swaps, ls swaps , 1uz swaps.... etc . suspension is available, you can swap in the mx83 suspension onto the mx73 and have 5 lug , better brakes etc, there are people who use the 300zx brakes on them, the weak areas are trans and rear ends , if you use the jz motors that make over 400tq.

Can I get some info? I have been on the look out for a Cressy for a few months. I even bid on that manual one on ebay last week, and missed out by $50 because I was not home when the auction ended.
