Yes, I know it's a Bangle era BMW.
AADD showed me a black 2007 Z4 M Coupe down in CA for a price that's within my budget. And the ad suggests it's been well maintained.
I also remember GRM commenting quite favorably on it.

The only thing wrong with that car is the fact that I don't own one.
Yes, we now have signatures.
I always preferred the MGB-GT-esque lines of the Z3 coupe, but the Z4 coupe is certainly much easier on the eyes than the droptop. That's all I have to add, too new and out of my budget for me to even think about researching it ![]()

I can see that being a downside

Well, this one's a little above my original budget but just about within the price range.
Sanity is vastly overrated.
A month or two ago I followed a non-M Z4 coupe on I-95. It looked good.

the only bangle era BMW I like.

There's one for sale in Atlanta, but it has a buyback title. Evidently some of them had computer issues.
I am in the search for one of these right now. Interlagos blue for me, please. Or maybe silver.
From my search, there are some cars in the mid to high 20s, but they are not as common. They seem to mechanically very sound, with a bit more maintenance than a non M z4 as the S54 requires 30k valve adjustments with shims, special castrol 10w60, etc, but that is all really well documented.
This weekend I'm going to drive an non M Z4 coupe to see if it will be more appropriate for a daily driver. Even if it is, I may just decide to not care and get the M anyway.
They are really striking in person, and the time I drove one I was basically giggling the entire time.

Our press car was metallic brown. It looked good.

there is one at work I try not to drool over. It's black, but woman owned.. it has bright pink accents inside

Yikes. The one I'm looking at is just about black enough (black w/ black interior) for me.

My buddy has a non m coupe. It's a wonderful engine, very torquey. Stupid easy to drive way to fast.

Oh yes use the longest screwdriver in the toolbox, use my shop voice and wing the rest!
though the z4 m's are almost certainly better, I still love the z3 m coupe more. I was behind one on the highway the other day, stunned speechless. love those cars. I changed all the backgrounds at work to a z3 m coupe today lol
people were understandably perturbed, since it is a subie dealership, so I changed them over to a cool pic of a impreza rs
The only problem I have with the M coupes is that not only is there usually a prick inside, it looks like one on the outside. It's like the double douche mobile!
But they are extremely awesome cars.
Rallying; It's like skydiving, except you have to dodge trees on your way down!
I loved driving that car so much... I woulda slept with it. Really.
I like that style too, before they softened it and made it less obnoxious.

This is probably my favorite paint on a modern car.
The only two things in life that make it worth livin' are guitars that tune good and firm feelin' women.
They are awesome, you need to own one. Though I would giggle hysterically every time I drove it into a tunnel
The Z4 based M Coupe is one of the few cars I'll go out of my way to circle in a parking lot...bonerjams.
The hot wife thread is my to-do list. Except yours. O-dawg don't do fat chicks.
Never understood why they don't sell better...
They are great. In stock form they refuse to turn. Help is damper/springs and a set of adjustable sway bars away. After that they are hell on wheels.

I'd guess that the Cayman/Boxster twins pose a pretty compelling alternative.

QFT. Stock, they plow like a John Deere. Still, the Z coupe is the only BMW that I'd put on my short list with the exception of a nice red E30 325is.
so obviously, they are hamstrung so as not to compete with the M3. BMW has a habit of doing that

I wouldn't say that - it's the same S54 motor as the E46 M3 in a smaller, lighter, stiffer chassis. I think they're in part hamstrung with the staggered wheel/tire setup to plow vs. oversteer on the limit, just like the E46 M3, thanks to the lawyers.
It's one of the few modern cars I really, really, really want. And certainly one of the few BMWs I'd own. I love the way it looks, I love the way it drives, I hate that I don't have one.
Between it and the Z3 M Coupe, it would be a difficult choice.
