Be firm on the price, and find a clean example. There's always a bunch for sale so there's no reason to settle.
Other than that, stick to the typical stuff like being wary of poorly done mods. If it has dual exhaust, it's been modified.

Their value dropped a good $5K when the 306HP '11 came out. Buy it cheap, buy it STOCK.

find one with the "pony" package. it's distiinguishable from lesser V6 models because it's the only V6 with fog lights in the grille. it also has the pony emblems on the front fenders. why do i recommend the pony package? because it also includes a ton of GT parts like the bullitt style 17" wheels, springs, dampers, and bars front and rear. it also has a unique ABS and TCS calibration because while it has the GT wheels and tires it does not have the GT front brakes. it's the only V6 with a rear bar.

Yeah, I can't imagine what dealers are gonna have to do to get rid of the '10s sitting on their lots...

Ditto on finding a pony package - watch for wear on the driver's seat bolster if it has leather seats. Mine is worn something awful - it's still fully funtional, feels fine, and I think it will last a long time, but cosmetically it could be better. There are plenty of them out there, so go for a pristine example.
I've never heard of any problem areas in the V6, but I have had a seatbelt recall on my 05 GT - it might be worth checking to see if it was done or needed on any car you look at.
Check out the 05-10 V6 pages at allfordmustangs.com - they've got some real gurus in the sixbanger sections.

Slight thread hijack; is allfordmustangs.com the "best" forum for finding good information and participating in discussions? I'm very close to pulling the trigger on buying an early SN95 convertible for DD / etc duties (no track time) and I'm seeing a lot of forums dedicated to these cars but not sure where to call home, and may just bug people here anyway...

Same thing that they are doing to the '11 Focuses. The '12's are being delivered.

I think I saw a commercial recently where Ford rebates a couple of thousand on the '11 Focus. Unless your only other choice was a Yaris, I don't think a Focus would be that good of a deal.
In my area of Florida, none of the Ford dealers have a '12 Focus in stock. They do have Fiestas in stock, a lot of them. In fact, they have so many sedans with automatics that they are having to start offering rebates on them. I want a Fiesta HATCH with a manual transmission, and in my area there are only 2....one's that dark blue and the other is that dark red. It's almost like they don't want you to even consider the hatch.
FORD, NOT EVERY SMALL CAR SHOPPER WANTS A SMALLER VERSION OF THE TAURUS.
Sorry to momentarily hi-jack the thread.

pres589 - I've always had very good luck with allfordmustangs - but I pretty much stay in the '05-up forums. Other members on this board report good experiences on some of the other mustang forums as well. there are a lot of choices out there for Stangs. YMMV based on personal taste...

I'm not sure they made a lot of 2010 Mustangs. All of the dealers around me were pretty bare when it came to Mustangs during 2010. I've often wondered if this is why the Camaro outsold the Mustang in 2010. Ford had to know the upcoming 2011 changes would hurt 2010 sales, so they may have purposely kept inventories low.
We breifly considered a 2007 V6 convertible when shopping for the second MINI. The Pony package is nice.

maybe its because the a$$ end of a fiesta sedan looks TERRIBLE! It looks so bad i would have guessed they didnt plan to sell many sedans.. maybe they wont.

I'm glad others think the Fiesta sedan is the travesty that I do. Seriously, why did Ford even waste their time with a 4-door?
