  Hey all. I'm looking into my damper options for the TDI. Goals are: longevity, comfort, performance. In that order, kinda. It seems like the previous owner spent a disproportionate amount of time on rough roads, I'm due to do the strut mounts and bushings, and I'd like to do the struts while I'm in there. I've heard great things about Koni, and loved them on the ACR neon. I think sports are likely overkill for my application, and was wondering: STR-T's are REALLY cheap for the Golf: $250 for the set? Maybe I've spent too much time looking at BMW parts, but that seems extremely reasonable. Are they any good?

  FSD's are more: double the price and then some. Worth the extra coin?

  I've been looking at new shocks for the M5 (they are not $250 for the set) and the Koni STR-T got a lot of attention when they first came out. Initial impressions from users seem to be good, but the long-term reviews seem to be "I should have bought the Sport, don't get the STR, they don't work as well as I thought". So I bought the Sports :)

  Not based on my personal experience, of course, but that's what my research in one fairly small community turned up.

  I have the FSDs. Not enough rebound damping on stock springs on the MINI, IMHO.

  The Koni Yellows are worth the upgrade.

  I have yellows on my "fun" car (99 Civic Si) and they rock (paired w/ Neuspeed springs and a Suspension Techniques rear sway/tie).

  I'm getting the STRs for my DD (00 Civic DX) and pairing them w/ Tein S-Tech springs because I'm more concerned about appearance and ride comfort on this one. I have no performance expectations out of this setup, so I might be a different case.
