  Logitech G25 or G27. You should be able to pick 'em up online, though they're certainly not cheap.

  I really want to build a sim-rig as well.... Ah, dreams of when I have time...

  I've heard it's just a lateral transition, better in some ways, worse in others, but mostly similar. I'll stick with my G25.

  I'm with you on the sim-rig... I just want to get or build one of the racing seat setups.

  Are the Logitech wheels really that much better than say, an MS Force Feedback one?

  That's a serious question by the way, I'm using my MS FF one with rFactor and it's OK, but could do with some improvement.

  Although technically not done, and built for Forza not iRacing, this is what Dave (wilberm3) and I came up with for about $70 in tube steel:

  

  I just don't have the time or money to get into iRacing. Forza is nice to be able to just plop down whenever I have time and get a pretty decent sim race.

  I snagged a G25 for fairly cheap when the G27 was released. It's about a year old and It works amazingly well, and stands up to quite a bit of hard use. I'd say in comparison to other wheels i've used (none more expensive than the G25) this one has better feedback through the wheel. I think it's because previous wheels I've had/used had weaker motors and gears, whereas this one has 2 torquey motors and can be muscled without gear damage.

  If i could complain, and I will, its the shifter which feels pretty light and loose, but there are mods for that. Also, the brake pedal acts funny on Gran Turismo 5/prologue, which calibrate as you go, but I added a stopper via tape to the pedal and it no longer does it, and this problem does not present itself on any other racing game. PC's also have different calibration methods so it always works perfectly.

  I've heard the shifter is easy to damage (and it feels kinda flimsy) but mine works fine. It's starting to feel goofy, but I'm assuming thats my fiance's doing, because she sometimes takes 3 or 4 tries to find the right gear (due to it's slightly unclear feeling) getting more violent every try.

  I'd say you need wheel and pedals at the least, and after getting one with a clutch and shifter, I can't immagine going back.

  The biggest issue I have with my G25 (which I mostly use for Live For Speed) is that I want force feedback on the shifter. LFS doesn't "accept" the shift if you don't hit the clutch pedal, so you end up with the shifter in 3rd, but the game still says you're in 2nd or 4th. I'd like the shifter to be able to resist if the game won't let you shift at that point. Along the same lines, I'd love some pedal feedback too, at least for the clutch.

  The logitech "Driving force GT" wheel is a cheaper alternative, works great for LFS...

  I have the above, works fine. No manual shifter, just flappy paddle shifting but that's ok by me. The Logitech ones seem to have the best steering response. I turned off the force feedback; to me it was just annoying.

  Moved to the fastest run group so I can drive "flat out"

  I had to turn mine down due to the lack of a proper mounting surface, but I don't see how you could get a better experience with it off. There's just so much feedback you get through the wheel that you elsewise wouldn't get.

  -looks like good value for 90 bones.

  I too have a Logitech Wingman FF - it was $20 on ebay, so no complaints there but the addition of a clutch pedal and real shifter would be nice.

  I have been using a Logitech GForce Driving Pro for about 5yrs with a bunch of sims. It works well with iracing. The FFB honestly feels as good as the G25 for less than a 3rd of the price. The drawbacks are that it does not have a gated shifter or a clutch pedal but I can upgrade to better pedals/shifter when I have the extra scratch or I can build a really nice setup from online DIYs with an old Tilton overhung pedal set from a circle track car and a load cell if I get fancy with a cockpit later.
