Updated with 2001/2002 data and two indeterminate entries from 08/09*

An asterisk indicates this make/model won an event

A plus sign means the vehicle was in the "Race" class in 2001.

Someone asked about what cars had been in the Challenge in the $2010 prep thread, and I was kind of curious, too. Compiled them into a spreadsheet by Make, Model, generation/year, with a column for each year, and a grand total column. I am missing the $2001 and $2002 data, so it is incomplete, and there were some entries in 08 and 09 I couldn't decipher perfectly, so I skipped. If anyone has the 01/02 data, I'd love to have it, and will update the numbers.

Very cool! Maybe this is something that can get integrated into the Challenge pages... then updated each year.

    Edited due to updated data

Oh yeah, if a car was entered in multiple years, it gets counted multiple times. I'll also hand over the spreadsheet for someone to post, if I can get a few corrections, and the missing years entered into it. Its interesting seeing cars gain and lose popularity through the years.

A few factoids, based on initial data:

Civic/CRXs are most prevalent at 56 total

    Fox bodies: 32 (maybe 33)

    1g Miatas: 19

    E30 BMWs: 18

    14 1g DSMs

    Only 3 3rd gen F-bodies, mine will make it 4 in 2010, I guess.

If I could get all the spotter's guide data (hint, hint), I could probably find the time to put this and much more (engine swaps, placement, etc) into a searchable database over the winter.

Any more details on the Monza?

Yeah, if I were to do the database, it'd be way too much time on my hands. This first list only took a few hours.

The 88 Accord ran in 2003

The Chevy Monza ran in the $1500 Challenge. I think the owner is on the board, so if he sees this, maybe he can add some details.

The XR4Ti count is wrong. If you are counting each showing I know of at least 10.

Scrolled through twice, didn't see BMW 2002 listed. I think you may find that was very present in the year 2002.

John Brown and ddavidv, thats why I need someone to send me 2001 and 2002 data :)

Edit: the AMX was in 2004, I think it may have gotten most spectacular failure for a towing mishap.

I also wonder how you are counting the cars- you count an Alfa Spider twice, and I only know of the one car that has been entered 3 times (and you did say you left out 2002).

    Good stuff, though.

Great reference to see if it's been done before. It's a bit misleading to list the same car entered several times as an additional entry. One car is one car. Thanks for the list, its a good start. It would be cool to see a spreadsheet come out of this with a little info about each car, such as if it had a motor swap.

I think that's part of the fun, though.

I would love to find a cheap old V6 Camry to molest for the Challenge.

    2- 1959 Zambonis, huh?

    Are you job hunting?

  • eastsidemav

    Oct. 28, 2009 4:06 p.m. eastsidemav Reader

Yeah, its tallied by entry, not by car, so if someone ran the same vehicle multiple times, it gets counted that number of times. If I make a relational database, I'll change that. At the very least, if I get the missing data, I'll be happy to send the completed spreadsheet to someone who can host it online. That way, it can be viewed as total entries or year-by-year.

SVrex, you noticed 2 Zambonis, but not 2 Fiat 118Gs? I'd assume the Fiat is rarer
