Built this out of some 2x4s and a spare miata seat. I located the wheel / shifter / pedals as close as i could to my miata, and it feels pretty close to the real deal. It works a heck of a lot better than clamping the wheel to my computer desk that's for sure!

The helmet is a nice touch ;) I do find it annoying to keep clamping/connecting wires then removing the wheel from my computer desk every time I want to use it but I don't have space for something like that.

I like it! I've been threatening to get a PS3 and GT27 (wife wants to use it to re-learn driving a manual) over the next few months, but my one hangup has been the rig itself. I've looked at a bunch of options (Obutto, Gameracer, Playseat), but they seem like they're not very cheap and they each have their limitations. This is a great alternative!

Thats great. As an enhancement this is also a good use for your expired race harness, just for that next level.

I was just checking out some other forums for cheap steering wheel stand setups. Saw this:

Its called a Ridgid Flip Top. I just got back from Home Depot where i picked one up for $30. So far its workin' great. Might not even need any modification. Here it is on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Ridgid-AC99331-2-Flip-Top-Stand/dp/B002R59ZE8

And here's the thread where i saw it:

Next I gotta hit Craigslist for a used 900deg wheel. My old Logitech Driving Force is really twitchy w/ GT5demo...

I feel your pain. Forza 3 online has some serious problems with their online lobbies, and last night there were about three videogamers driving 1200lb Civics (with the suggested line/autobraking/traction control turned on) bitching about how early I got on the brakes in my 2400lb BMW E9.

That seems to be the weird thing about FM3 online..the things acutally act more like real cars, but the online lobbies punish you for treating them like that...

That's a great setup. I hope to do something similar. I also happen to have a couple of extra Miata seats. I hadn't thought to try to duplicate the track Miata's interior geometry, but that's a good idea.

I built this in about 4 hours out of some scrap steel and a couple of $3 faucet handles welded to bolts with nuts welded to the frame. You can adjust the pedal length, wheel height and the arm length independently, the seat is also on a slider for maximum adjustment. Cost me about $35. I started with an old Datsun Z car seat and then picked up this Corbeau with a broken frame from a friend who was going to toss it in the trash!

Completely changes how you play driving games. Even with the generally low quality xBox360 steering wheel, the sensitivity and "feel" you get from a steering wheel is so much better than the hand controller, it's indescribable...

Logitech G25 and now the G27 take it to a whole new level again.

    Cheers, WW

    Lots and LOTS of Datsuns...

I was (mostly) just being silly. I figured that was probably a tactical line to keep the inside through the turns. Not fastest, but better than getting divebombed.

What's the deal on that? I thought I'd heard something about the 360, or some games, only supporting the official XBox wheel, and not any of the (better and/or cheaper) 3rd party hardware.
