Adding boost to one of these is as simple as an upside-down DSM manifold, turbo, custom downpipe, and FPR. Do it.

If it ends up sucking in the fun dept., weld the back doors shut, and chop of 2/3 of the roof.

I think you needs to redrill the manifold for it to fit right.
Other than that it would be cool.

This.
Not that I've done it, but one of the guys with the black turbo festiva at the challenge this year had previously built a turbo 1.9 wagon and had it running on E85. cardomain site here-> http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2565722

Escort wagons are great cars for junkyard runs- FWIW, with the rear seat folded down, a Jag IRS assembly will just BARELY fit lengthwise with the hatch closed. A stock Escort rear suspension with 230,XXX miles will just BARELY not bottom out with said payload.

You can fit a V6 in it if you want too: http://forums.probetalk.com/showthread.php?t=1701246926
Mx3 is the link between probe/mx6 engine and escort chassis I do believe.

Just some trivia:
Most folks here probably know that before the Escort was introduced to the U.S. it was sold overseas in 2 different generations with RWD. But, what's vaguely interesting is that after it went FWD (and maybe before?) some countries/markets got a 2 door wagon and some got a 4 door (or 3 and 5 if that's how you look at it). In the U.K. you could get the 3 door and it occasionally "pops up" in the background of movies filmed in the U.K. in the '80s.
Nice body and nice appearing interior....just not sure I'd waste the time and money on an automatic. I do love the wagon bodystyle, tho.

I am pretty sure there is a Mazda turbo motor that bolts into escorts...can't remember which engine it is though.

The Escort auto trans is junk. I went through two in my 95 Tracer. Beyond that, it's underpowered and boring.
Wagons rock, and carry a lot of stuff. Good cheap grocery getter, and other than the transmission it's cheap to run.

B6T/BPT.
It's not a full bolt in affair in this car though. It IS if you started with the mazda twin cam, a la Escort GT, Escort LX-E, and Tracer LT-S.
But it's still pretty easy.

Before I got my SW2 I had the idea of adding a second engine to the back of a Saturn wagon, turning it into a 2800lb 250hp AWD plastic beast...
Not sure how I'd engineer the manual shift linkages. I considered going with a pair of automatic drivetrains, which would be simpler but probably a lot less fun to drive.- Justin

Cable operation for the shifting so i dont see it being tooooo bad

just some carefully measured cable that is longer?

My wife had an 81 4 door wagon with a 4 speed when I met her. It is actually the reason I met her 20 years ago. We drove it for 200k.
Dont ask me how I know a clothes washer will fit in the back with the hatch closed and the matching dryer will fit on the roof rack

I worry about reincarnation. What if I’m not hung as well next time around? The Buddha said Not to grasp- life is transitory. Damn it some things a man gets used to grasping.

I know a guy whose family-hauler Taurus wagon lost its brakes halfway to a cottage. Naturally, this was at 5:00 on a Saturday in resort country, which means no hope of anybody wanting to fix it until Monday. He managed to talk his way into borrowing an Escort wagon from the service station guy, then set about transferring all the stuff from dead wagon to live wagon. The Escort took everything from the totally full Taurus and had room to spare. He still doesn't see how this was possible, but he has a wife and kids as witnesses.
