Moab is about an hour away for your off-roading jollies. The mountain biking is as good as it gets. Grand Junction is one of the 10 sunniest cities in the US - it's about the exact opposite of Portland, for example. We get as much sun as they get rain. We get little snow in town, but you can be neck deep in the stuff by driving up on top of the 11,000' mesa on the edge of town. Vail, Telluride, Aspen and Crested Butte are all just a few hours away.
