My favorite build that I've seen on line has got to be the 1971 Datsun 240z by the guys in Sweden.
The thread is alright, http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/41372-1971-datsun-240z-restoproject-vids... but the video documentary of it makes it the best I've ever seen: http://www.voodoo-people.com/~daz/mull/wmv/

The music is great, the editing is great and you can really see their fab skills increase through the life of the project. Unfortunately, it's not quite done yet and it hasn't been updated in a while.

I've always wanted to do that with a Civic hatch. Even kept a parts car around for a few years anticipating it, but never got around to it. I figured it was the only way to improve on it.

The Datsun MX520 was a good build. Apparently now he is taking a 510 wagon adding/splicing miata suspension and powering it with a F20C
