My ex is getting ready to give another car away so she will not have to "deal with wierdos looking at my car" The local Infiniti dealer has offered her $5k for her 2004 G35 Coupe in trade for a 2011 FX35. Here is where the blasphemy starts (actually the blasphemy starts with a hot blonde thinking of driving an ugly FX35). Should I sell my Miata to get the G? The Miata is a clean early 1990 150, 000 mi. with a hardtop and a Hard Dog rollbar. I am currently selling my 88 Jeep Comanche Eliminator and between the two, I would only need to scrape together about a grand. The G has 160k (she used to commute 100 miles per day) It is super clean, no bodywork, Sport pkg. however it is an automatic. There is another factor to consider, when I was engaged to said hot blonde, it didn't look as strange to go out on the town with my dog riding along. Now that I am single, I'm the guy with the cute little car and a Yorkie. I have rationalized that the G will attract the attention of attractive women who will eventually grow tired of my hobbies and general attitude rather than people of my same gender. In the meantime, my Yorkie is only allowed in the Xterra, which is typically muddy. So.....what would y'all do. Avoid the hassles of a somewhat problematic electrical system and keep the most fun car I have ever owned, or make the leap to the G?

G does nothing for me. If you're gonna get rid of the miata get a real sports car like an s2000 or e36 m3, just in my opinion.

After having owned a 350Z, which was by all measures a fantastically fun car to drive, it just never made me fall in love with it.
I can't imagine a heavier, auto with a pitiful excuse of a back seat would be any different.
On the other hand, you could probably flip it for a bit of cash.

In reply to windsordeluxe:
If you're any good at selling cars, why not offer to sell it for her for a commission and spend the money to improve the Miata?
I'd keep the Miata, but then again I usually gravitate back to one, get fed up with it, sell it, rinse, repeat...

Flipping was also a consideration, but she will only let me keep a grand at the most. Which isn't bad considering the effort needed to post a car on Craigslist.

At the price level, up to a grand doesn't sound too bad to me...

I think that for about $80, you should be able to rid yourself of the Yorkie. Just tell the vet that he bit your neighbor's kid.

I agree with the general consensus so far. The vehicles you already have are infinitely (pun intended) more interesting than the Infiniti.
Bottom line: Keep current vehicles and get new hot blond with a more interesting car.

wow, you are a photoshop pro!! How in the world did you find such a clear photo of a woman from a 1970s Buick advertisement and make her look like she is standing in front of a modern car???

It all reeks of bad. You have a nice Miata, and a truck to cart your muddy dog around, and you're single.
Why mess with a good thing?

1) I think the "hairdresser" aspect of the Miata is completely nullified by the hardtop and roll bar. (I have yet to meet a gay man who drives a Miata, and I run into a good cross-section of both gay man and Miata drivers. Where did that trope come from?)
2) Picking a car to attract women will attract women who are picking you by your car. Do you want to pick up girls who like Miatas or girls who like badges?
3) $5k is an utter travesty, even for a slushboxed blob of a car. KBB says $11k private party in midtown Memphis, which is not an area known for opulence. If you have skin in this game (and the breakup was amicable) tell her not to trade.

It seems that you may not be adding them properly. Try another photo, maybe something near the beach. -

G35s are pretty complicated from an electrical perspective. Honestly, I'd walk away from a used one. One of my friends has an '04 6MT Coupe that he's owned since new, and he's had his fair share of issues with it (A/C issues, driver's seat frame broke, stereo head unit issues, short in trunk wiring causing all sorts of ABS/VDC/etc lights, oil in the coil packs, etc.) And he's taken very good care of the car since day one. Consumables, such as tires and brakes are a pretty significant cost over time, as well.
They're a great car, but the long-term costs of owning an older used one would scare me away (and I own a 13 year old BMW)!

I would second the idea that a dealer offering your "friend" 5 or 6K for this G is taking her for a ride....and probably not the fun kind of ride.
I also think what you have beats owning the G. I also wouldn't mind finding a decent Eliminator.

Since the answer to every question is Miata, you need to rephrase the question so the choices do not include G35's or anything else that is not a Miata.

1- get a loan
2- buy g35 from ex for 6k
3- drive it for a month and declare you can't deal with the auto
4- sell for 9-10k at tax refund time
5- turbo/v8 miata!
