wonder if they'll kill the power shifts like they do now with the 3.8l though. stands to be scary fast if they do put the big motor in the little car though.

If they can do that plus (and I know it's blasphemous) a 7 spd DCT gearbox as slick as the new M3, I will sign on the dotted line tomorrow.

I believe this is part of their plan to be faster than a MINI.

Then they can run in NASCAR!

Yeah, well...sometimes even when it IS broken I don't fix it.

But the car isn't FWD and V6 powered in the showroom. Isn't that a requirement to be eligible to have it run in NASCAR?

Hyundai seems to be better at generating hype than race cars. Has anybody (anybody here, not a friend of a friend or a journalist) actually driven the R-spec Genesis coupe? I haven't seen one yet, and I've only seen a couple standard-issue G-coupes autocrossing.

I hope it's true, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Much like Keith...I was just running with popular touchy subjects from other threads on the board .

But yeah...you pretty much nailed it.

Now we need some GTO, K-code falconstang, and Ridgeline comments!

Yeah, well...sometimes even when it IS broken I don't fix it.

There's a time when 429 would've impressed me. But when the Mustang has 412, the Camaro has ~420, the GTO had 400, the Challenger and Charger both have ~420, CTS-Vs are running around with ~560... I'm just jaded to big power numbers.

What I want to know is what's gonna make Hyundai's 429 hp Genesis more worth my money than a Mustang GT? Does it handle significantly better? Will it be significantly cheaper? Will it be significantly lighter? Better interior design? Aftermarket? More open to modding under warranty? Better fuel economy?

well...on the interior note, anythings better than the fisher-price plasticy interiors of GM products

    In reply to ReverendDexter:

I'd think that a Genesis Coupe V8 would weigh slightly less than a Mustang GT.

The main difference between the two would be IRS, if that came out to any appreciable handling difference.

Hopefully depreciation on it drops faster than the American V8s and I can buy one sooner. No more new cars for me...

Hardly. While Hyundai has made great strides in the continual improvement of their products, they still have a ways to go. They don't "feel" right and fall short in many of the subjective areas that make enthusiasts all tingly inside. I also don't find it particularly attractive. After driving the current offering, I left with a massive case of the mehs.

If the 4.6L wouldn't fit in a Genesis Coupe (in a production setting, at least), how will the 5L? I'm guessing Autoblog is just talking out of their butts trying to get some attention for this story since nobody really cares about the Genesis sedan or the Equus.

(Although I guess it's possible Hyundai was talking out of their butts when they said it wouldn't fit.)
