I'd call that grassroots - even if it is in a truck. Cue dealer mark ups in 3... 2... 1...

Can't think of why I'd want a stick with that much power in a truck?

This thread is more evidence of how the new Jalopnik sucks so hard!

390 is just a tune away. I saw nothing out of the ordinary I the one I saw. Besides after seeing the "adventurer" package at the auto show recently, I'd rather have an old BR body or first yr or two DR body. To sum it up in one ward, NASTY! and not in a good way.

Or you could just spend 20ish K used and get one of these. 27K with a blower and a proper transmission.

    Of course I am biased.

Does that costs 22k new, get 20mpg and can haul 10,450 lbs?

I swore off Jalopnik a couple of months ago. Sounds like they had farther to fall, after all.

I stopped looking about 6-8 months ago. There are much better sites out there for car geeks.

I like this truck. I might consider one down the road when I'm shopping for my next vehicle. Gotta give Chrysler credit here for offering a cheaper version of the Ram that still has some goodies.

I saw the "Midnite Express" mentioned in the comments section of that article - it was basically the same as the "Lil Red Express" but painted black and powered by a 440 instead of a 360 (235hp vs 180hp). I'd never heard of that truck before. I've seen plenty of Lil Reds, but I don't think I've ever seen a Midnite, unless I've seen them and just assumed someone painted a red one black. Just thought I'd mention it.

The Midnight Express was a California Dealers Association thing. They had a special run of them made and I believe the decals were applied at the dealerships. It wasn't a regular Chrysler product. Wasn't a 440 truck either. It was basically a Little Red in black. I think they Midnight Expresses had the same E58 Police Package 360 in them.

I love my '06. I looked for a while, and it was the only crew-cab truck available from the Big 3 that was stripped. And when I say stripped, I mean:

    • No power door locks (bit of a pain on a 4 door truck)

    • No power windows

    • Plastic Flooring

In other words, perfect for a work truck! No idea what it cost new, but I like the idea of a truck that's not loaded.

Holy cow. So I thought ~$24k was good. Try pricing it from a car buying service. I did it through USAA- with hemi, class iv hitch, and sliding rear window: $17,334.

    $6900 off MSRP.

No, a Warlock was a trim package that could be had in several different colors and driveline combinations. 318 auto 2WD through 440's and 4x4. The Warlock came out first. Lil Red was an evolution of the "Adult Toys" in the Dodge catalog.

The Lil Red took advantage of a loophole in the emissions laws. At the time light trucks didn't need cats. The prototype Lil Red had Direct Connection W2 cylinder heads and a hot cam. They couldn't get passed into production so they pulled the police spec 360 and installed it.

In 1978 the fastest American production car was a Lil Red pickup.
