I would like to know the origin of Grassroots Motorsports. How did it come about? Who decided to make a magazine out of a lifestyle? When was the first GRM challenge (official or unofficial) and who all was there?

There I am performing a beautiful drift past the apex and Joey48442 looks at me and shouts "You know, I have never been in a rollover accident before!" It quickly went downhill from there.

The first official Challenge was the $1500 Challenge and IIRC it was won by Team MiniMe with a rather quick turboed Dodge Caravan. Hey, there ya go! Add GRM trivia, the first correct responses win schwag.

my real honest answer.
I don't read it.
I order a subsription to a magazine, thus I like having paper in my hands. I rarely read on-line articles. So when an online newsletter arrives, it's basically never read. If you can belive it, our local Alfa club went online about 6 months ago, and I've still not read a single one that's been sent to me.
Just thought you'd want a different view.

Unforchinitly I have to second Eric's statement. I may skim it but I want my GRM mag.
But why do we read the web forum you may ask? Simple it is like a slow motion conversation with a whole bunch of people. Very different!!

Besides, it's awful hard to get the computer out to the garage when I'm trying something I saw in the magazine.

I think some of you may be confused about what I was referring to... I mean the email newsletter we send out roughly about the time a new issue is shipping. It's a supplement to the magazine and site, not a replacement for either. Some things are most suited for the magazine, and they'll go there. Some things are most suited for the site, and they'll go here. Video, for example, is just terrible in the magazine. Hardly worth watching.
The newsletter is a way for us to keep ya'll up to date on the latest news, let you know what's coming in your next issue, give you first crack at contests and stuff, and add in a few extras to keep things interesting.
There's been some really good suggestions, too. Keep 'em coming!

Tim and Margie were poor, and he was frustrated with reading about Ferraris, not the beat up crap he had. One night, he said to her "I've got a crazy idea: why don't we start our own magazine." She agreed, and Auto-X was born. Over the years, the name was changed because of confusion with other "genres" of magazine, and Grassroots Motorsports came. The first challenge was in 1999 (I think), and was only for $1500.
There ya go.

Serious entry for the Newsletter:
Since we can not convince Tim to develop Sprockets Magazine : The Hardore Enthusiasts Guide to Alternative Motorsports why not put Sprockets in the Newsletter?
Reader submissions as well as neat writer supplied articles rotating with tech articles. Just a single development area as well as packaging links on the Sprocket webazine site (a compartment of the GRM website!)
Tim, Tim, Margie... I would be willing to telecommute for the job as assistant buttkisser to the Editor, but you already know that ;)

I know what you are talking about, and still generally ignore the "newsletter". I just don't like reading articles on line. Discussion is ok, but not articles. So I'm happy to wait for the paper magazine to show up.
As long as you don't hold back on the content in the paper version, I'll be content to ignore the newsletter. Just be aware that IF there's extra online content....
That's where AW is going, and it really makes me mad. And I KNOW GRM and CM are not intending to go that way, too.
But I just think you should be aware that there are long time readers who pretty much ingore the stuff you e-mail us if it's not on a personal level. (like I read stuff from you, Tim, and Per, and all the other editors I know)
Just sayn.
