We just heard that Toly Arutunoff was hurt badly last night. Toly was helping a motorist who had spun out and gotten stuck when another car struck him. Sounds like he's stable. We just saw him at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, and he's such a nice guy.

Our very best wishes go out to Toly Arutunoff and his family today.
Our publisher Tim Suddard used his cell phone to catch this photo of Toly reading the latest issue.

Huh, I would have sworn he was reading it with his eyes.

Quick update from Mrs. Arutunoff:
Tomorrow will be surgery #4 in a week. Toly continues to amaze with his strength of spirit and mind if not body. I "got him back" yesterday w a change in his meds. He has no memory of the past week for the most part but seems to know exactly how this tragedy happened. It is almost unimaginable. He survived by the grace of God. Even the trooper on site is suffering w frost bite.
Yes, we now have signatures.

Thanks for keeping us updated, David - please keep it up. I met Toly at Pikes Peak back in '86 or '87 when I was covering the event for GRM. Toly was running a Cunningham that year in a vintage category, and as I was photographing his car in the motel parking lot, he came storming out of his room waving a scrapbook showing the history of the car. Talk about an enthusiast! All the stories about him are true - he had never met me, but dragged me into his room and talked about the Cunningham, vintage sports cars in general, and God knows what else for at least an hour. What a great guy! Our prayers are with him.

Sounds like the surgeries are going well. I can only imagine what he and his family are going through. My one-day surgery was a major ordeal. He's been through several since the accident. Get well soon, sir.

We are now in the fast lane! Had no idea what rehab meant. Rising at the crack of noon is not an option. Rise and shine @ 7, breakfast in the dining room @ 8, rehab til noon, lunch, more rehab from 1 to 4. I'm guessing @ 4 he will be planning his escape. Feel free to visit before 8 PM @ Mary Kay Chapman Center, 1819 E 19th St, Tulsa, (5th floor Bernsen Rehab rm 586). The object is to get him back into life asap!
