    Shoulda kept:

'71 Dodge Demon slant 6 (was slightly rusty, but nothing compared to what I've seen sell for $$$ these days... let the junkman tow it away... )

    '78 F150 4x4

'73 Dodge Charger 318. All I had to do was get it running... but I didn't know enough about cars (and points) at the time (20 years ago).

    Shoulda bought:

unfinished MGB for $1000... bodywork done w/ fresh paint. Needed brake work and a top.

my ex-g/f's '97 M3... could have had it for $14K... bone-stock car in cherry condition. She never beat on it.

I've blocked the rest from memory...

I spoke with my brother yesterday, the Skylark vert. was a 64 with the alloy V8. (later a rover engine)

neat car.....then there is the VW Westie I should have bought for $1,500 years ago. It was even funky orange!

You mean like this (only orange)?

    From Easter Car Show 09

If it doesn't leak... it's not mine!

Joe Gearin wrote: hmmmm.....always thought it was a 65. Maybe it was a 66, or 67. I thought it was the smaller body style though. (they got bigger in 66) In any case, it was a pretty cool car, especially with the top down.

    How about a 64?

    Shoulda kept:

1960 TR3A with OD. Bought for $1250 and sold for $1300 several years later and torn apart. Only car I ever "made" money on.

1956 VW beetle convertible. My first car.

1966 Mustang hardtop-289 4V. Worst brakes ever! Wifey's first car.

    Shoulda bought...Oh dear.

1958 TR3 to replace the one I sold.

    XK150S from a co-worker for around $2100.

    1956 XK-140 for $1895.

    1965ish XK-E from a fellow grad student for $3500.

Sunebam Tiger for $400 with a hard top.

Yep, nearly exactly. It was an Orange bay window bus. I still want one.

+1 Bill, that is a pretty painful list!

Painful indeed... I went through a whole box of Kleenex reading that list. Cheers, Scott

Painful topic for sure: Should have kept:

Ferrari Daytona Coupe that I bought the weekend I met Joe at Road America. It was a pain but a beautiful one.

1969 911S coupe Bahama Yellow and all original. I did not like the color then. Stupid, car was perfect.

1969 Aston Martin DBS I bought for 22 grand at auction in Arizona. Sold because I was moving back East.

1954 Porsche Speedster. I needed cash, I made around 5 grand on it and thought I did great.

The 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS with the wrong engine but otherwise original I bought for $27000. Sold for $34000. Who knew that these would appreciate so much.

    Should have Bought:

The 1977 Aston Martin AM V8 Saloon at RM 2 year ago that sold for $28000.

A Facel Vega at a San Francisco dealer for only $25000. The car was perfect.

Alfa Romeo Junior Z at another San Francisco dealer in a beautiful french blue color for $10000.

The nicest Fiat Dino spider I have ever seen that I found in Orange County while visiting parents for and I quote the owner "I think 20 grand is a fair price"

The 1969 Fiat Coupe I passed on because it was in Canada and too far away, by the time I decided to buy it the car was long gone.

My plan for the future: Buy it immediately if I love it and can afford it and only sell it if I begin to hate it or somehow get over it.

Hey, Spitfirebill, check the Reno/Tahoe CL... There's a '58 TR3 posted there as of this afternoon. Needs restoration, but it might be your perfect opt. for you to redeem yourself. Cheers, Scott
