I have the 2008 Fiat 500 on loan from Lane Motor Museum for the 2009 Fiat FreakOut. I recently had the opportunity to visit a friend who has an older Fiat 500. I drove his car and it was really interesting to see the differences. Obviously, the new 500 is a real car compared to the old 500. The old 500 was very nicely sorted though and the lineage was obvious.

I have put almost 6,000 miles on this 2008 Fiat and can safely say that it is a fun, reliable economy car. I am regularly getting into the 40 mpg in the city driving and can peak into the 50 on the hwy. Doesn't have tons on power but does love to rev and will reward those willing to do so. I describe the sound and manners of the engine as an 'angry squirrel". It has developed a nice growl that only an Italian engine can have.

This car gets looks everywhere I go and if Fiat doesn't get this thing over fast, they are crazy. I'll take mine in an Abarth Cabrio version thanks.

Try this with a SMART car...I don't think so.

Nice interior with a cool glass roof, all standard for less than $15,000!

Brett: Correct me if I am wrong. The new 500 is basically a more expensive Fiat Panda with "looks". I would go for a new Panda and tart it up with Rally lights, wheels and tires.

We saw a new 500 parked on the street in Birmingham, MI a while back (I think last year). My wife has wanted one ever since.

Yes, it is a Panda underneath. Of course, you could always get the Suzuki SX4. It is a Fiat underneath as well.

Meh...it's ok looking but not remarkable.
