  A week ago last Saturday I had a day off in San Diego. What a neat feeling to have nothing to do in a strange place.

  I started the day by going to a Cars And Coffee. Then I answered a Classified ad and went and looked at a 1959 Edsel Village Wagon. Man I have the hots for a big Fifties convertible or wagon... the uglier and the more chrome the better. '59 Villagers rock!

  Then I went to a Pick and Pull in Chula Vista. Too much new stuff, but I did find an E30 BMW and a decent rust free TR7.

  I think an Edsel wagon would be a very sensible, economical tow vehicle for the rest of my old junk.

  I was watching another one on ebay and it sold for $11,000. I need Margie to see the beauty of this logical choice for a car and get rid of something else before I pull the trigger on this one though. I did not bid.

  I usually can get away with murder if we need the editorial for the magazine, but this one is proving to be a hard sell as it has little or no editorial value for a sports car magazine.

  No editorial value? I'd beg to differ...how about an article on tow rigs from the school of cool? The Edsel could be one, a friend had a 66 or so Catalina powered by a tri carbed 389 that he used to pull his 124 racer. Another buddy has pulled all manner of small Italian iron with an Audi 200 Turbo Quattro Avant then he switched to an E32 735i and so on...

  I grew up in the third row of a '58 Mercury Voyager wagon. 430 Lincoln engine, juke box drive, no post and I've been looking for one ever since.

  I expect we'll soon be hearing about a mint condition barn find '50s American iron station wagon monstrosity that will be "discovered" in the hills of North Carolina and made available to CM for around $150.

  I might not be a fan of the Edsel idea--btdt practically, since my tiny mom drove a '59 Fairlane--but the greenhouse on that Merc is go-go-gorgeous.
